Changes to the law

Of course they are victims. Whether their initial decision to consume was down to desperation, stupidity, peer pressure, whatever, the fact that they are then trapped in the hopeless spiral of addiction means that only a truly heartless **** could see them as anything other than warranting society's help.

Then I fall into the so - called heartless **** category.

One thing that gets on my knapper is the thought that drug users are victims. They have their own mind. No one forces them to go down that slippery slope and the public purse should not be used to treat their addiction. So much petty crime (ie robbery, theft etc) is the result of these addicts need for a "fix". I know as I have been one of many victims of their crimes.

I too was a victim of a drug addict the one time I was burgled and the one time I was mugged (admittedly the mugging failed as I was able to fight him off). Doesn't affect my view that once addicted they should be treated no differently to an alcoholic or someone addicted to smoking or gambling or food..after all we treat them don't we?

I agree, they shouldn't be treated differently. I wouldn't treat ANY Of them. It's all their own fault. Why should decent people have to pay for their misdemeanors ?

I'm with you.

I know of a heroin addict who's been convicted of shop lifting 150 times but never been sent down for longer than 2 months. Why should everyone have to pay for dick heads like him, he doesn't want to pack in and he knows he can keep on robbing.

So to be clear we should not treat anyone who is addicted to anything to help them stop their addiction because in every case it's all their own fault.

So logically if someone is made ill by say smoking or drinking alcohol then the NHS should not treat them?

The police should enforce the law more to prevent middle lane hoggers.

Stricter punishment against animal cruelty.

Stricter penalties to owners who don't pick up there dog mess and anyone dropping litter.

Rapists, etc. Shouldn't have their name released until charged, the same as those on the receiving end.

Speed limit should be increased on certain stretches of motorway.

I, normally, don't get excited about different people's different views. However, this is something that gets in my craw. And this comes from someone who's son has been on holiday at Her Majesty's Holiday Camp for similar offences. I have no sympathy what so ever in these circumstances. People can live their lives however they want. I have no problem with that. But don't ask for help when it all goes wrong. Which inevitably will.

Standardised sentencing

Life to mean life

The law being applied to everyone.. no exceptions or exemptions

no public disclosure of offenses before court appearance or charge laid

Allow pub owners the choice to have a smoking pub

Increase the price of alcohol comparatively to tobacco.

Legalise prostitution

First one - no, If it is clear someone is genuinely totally rehabilitated then for some crimes, it might be appropriate to allow them out. Also, practical problems in prisons if a someone knows he is not going to get out regardless, they may kill a prison officer or another inmate. More in favour of stricter time in prison, for instance badly behaved prisoners to get no TV or internet for set periods.

I agree with the second one, no one shamed without conviction.

The smoking pub sounds liberal and free, but sometimes people are obliged to work or go into pubs when they don't smoke, and that law would risk the health of these people. IF a group go out together, one strong character who smoked could take advantage of someone else's politeness who might not want to appear awkward by saying they wont go in a smoking pub. Verdict - no, a backward step.

Agree with an alcohol price increase, especially in supermarkets, and also controls on strength of what is sold.

Legalise prostitution ? - perhaps decriminalise, but totally open, with advertising everywhere (though it practically is already) - no. I assume you mean at over a certain age too, and perhaps in this cae it might be better at 18 or 21. Mixed feelings on this - if it were done, then do it as in Amsterdam, taxed, controlled fully and with massively sevee penalties for any asccoiated human trafficking or underage misuse.

Decriminalise certain drugs without making them legal.

Fully legalise and tax, allow advertising for natural organic marijuana, but not chemically artificial ex-legal highs with massive amounts of brain damaging THC, or 'skunk'. Perhaps allow magic mushrooms too in small amounts with similar health warnings to tobacco. These would then be like alcohol and tobacco now, legal, available but pwerhaps with severe advertising restrictions and health warnings.

All other drugs not to be freely available - decriminalise but not legalise.

Controlled clean heroin injections for addicts to stop them stealing to fund their habit and using dirty needles.

I don't think things like crystal meth should be legalised, again a treatment programme but severely restricted,

That quite frightened me in that I agreed with all of them except the last one, and only then because of the number of animals killed on roads, including motorways, and the increased danger to anyone forced to stop in the hard shoulder lane - average time before they are hit is just 11 minutes I saw recently.

IN fact, I would cut speed limits on 60moh roads to 50 for the same reasons, animals and people in danger, and in towns and cities 25mph is enough - with 5000 to 10000 more speed cameras, always working and a standard fine of £20 plus £10 per mile per hour above the speed limit plus 5mph, and a cost to cover admin.

So someone doing 73mph in a 50 limit would pay £20, plus 73 mius 55 is 18 times £10 = £180, that's £200 plus perhaps an admin cost of £40. Anyone not paying to have car confiscated. This may seem harseh, but so is losing a loved one to a reckless speeding driver.

Yes. Simple as that.

Does that include alcohol, and does it mean anyone overweight who gets diabetes should not be treated on the NHS ? Would help be withdrawn from people who want to stop smoking? Gambling addictions ?

Many people who fall prey to these temptations are victims of advertising, peer pressure, group/gang mentaility, even parent pressure sometimes.

I don't know how you can say that an addicted child or someone with severe learning difficulties who gets addicted or someone with severe depression (through a medical/physical cause) who becomes an addict and so on can always be said to be at fault for their addiction

For me it's a bit much (to say the least) to hold a child responsible when they are after all..children. Someone may have the mental age of a child so same thing and when you're depressed...well perhaps drugs/drink and the addiction that follows is a better alternative to suicide?

But your position is clear.

I'll leave it there

ALL drugs to be legal, quality controlled and taxed.

You are forced to retake your driving test every 10 years. Maybe even every 5.

Euthanasia to be legalised.

people are forced to do community work in exchange for dole money. There is plenty of litter than needs picking and graffiti that need cleaning etc.
