Poor attendance today

I was talking the usual b*ll*ck*. That was the cup game.

Sorry - which was the cup game, the 4,017? Not being funny here, just wondered.......I am seriously worried about the gates, and I'd love to be able to go, but they need to sort it out before I do. If the gates are really down by that much, then that promised investment may not be enough - unless it gets here quickly!!

V has obviously never happened before

There have never been school holidays before

Let's see about the other two games

OR

Get Bratt and Oliver gone now, Mark Sims in and see what happens to attendances then.

What on earth are you on about 'never happened before?' Possibilty of 5,000 fans without it.....deperate times indeed - NOT!

These that bang on about we'd have 6-7,000 fans if Bratt and Oliver **** off........load of tripe, there would just be another reason. We'll always get this sort of crowd with the exception of big games or a season in the Championship. Our gates are on par and in many cases better than teams at this level. SEO is pointless, fruitless.....it just means the moaning bar-stewards are less. Three games, 8 goals, enjoy whatever you have found to do with on a Saturday. You don't seem to have been missed.

I'm not going to the Southend game - will that be me supporting SEO then?

Last season our second home game was Torquay on Saturday 28th. We went into that game having played 5, won 3, drawn 1 and lost 1. That one defeat though was 6-0 away at Fulham. We were 4th in the league at the time, and lost 2-1 to the league leaders. The home support was 5535 but for the next game (Aldershot) it dropped to 5149, 386 (7%) down. This was despite two good results against Rochdale in the JPT and Bradford in the league. In saying that, the number of home fans against Torquay was nearly 8% down on those against Chesterfield, despite good away results.

This season, our home attendance for the first game was 10% down on the first home game last season. The attendance for Accrington was 17% lower than the attendance for Crawley, and 19% lower than for our second home game (Torquay) last season.

In comparison, Shrewsbury's first two home games for last season were:

Bradford City (Won 3-1) - Attendance 5544 home fans (6993 total)

Aldershot Town (Drew 1-1) - Attendance 5119 home fans (5353 total)

This season it's been:

Plymouth Argyle (Drew 1-1) - Attendance 5214 home fans (6421 total)

Crewe Alexandra (Won 2-0) - Attendance 4529 home fans (5050 total)

So Shrewsbury have seen a 12% drop in attendances on this time last season.

So I think there is an argument to say that attendances are not just dropping at Vale. However, a near 20% drop in attendances is a huge worry and something that must be causing the board a huge amount of concern. Rather than gloating that missing supporters missed "a great game", the board need to be far more proactive in winning fans back.

Arrogant responses that fans will come crawling back when we keep winning games show a lot of naiveity in many people.

Tbf,weve never bin the most supported club though have we..When we were in the Championship,we were only getting 5000 home fans back then.So 4000 for a **** league against **** opposition is probably about right for a team like us..

I have a number of videos of those times, the numbers in the bycars alone at that time show you that your figures are a bit out. Don't forget Belly worked out attendances, a near full ground against Arsenal with people standing or sitting in the aisles was given as 14500 when the capacity was 23000. When we were going well in that division we would get decent crowds, far better than now.

It was a cracking result and a brilliant 1st half performance, shame all the SEO people didn't manage to see it, if that is what affected the gate, didn't see many listening outside the main entrance this week thou. Last two games we ve been as good as we were at our best last season. I don't care who owns or runs the club as long as the vale win, it looks like we ve got a good chance this year which might be killed if SEO forces us into admin.

Not many people in SEO according to this post, but it will be SEO's fault if we go into admin. How is that?

Have you felt that 'we have a good chance' feeling in any previous seasons? Have you been impressed with the board's plans / achievements for moving up the leagues during their tenure?

Oh what do I care. You just get comfy in that rut.
