Pope did nothing convince me last year, he may well be a local and mates with a few off here but that shouldn't be enough get in the squad.

 

I'm also a bit worried about the culture developing at the club, too many boozers, slackers and criminals. I'd like see us sign some professionals not another thug who likes the pop too much.

Regardless of what formation the manager wants to play, he needs the players to be able to play and understand that formation. I can't see us straying to far form 4-4-2 at home and 4-5-1 for away games.

I was keen on the idea of a nippy small striker. Most clubs had one who came to VP last season, and too often than not in the "smaller" games they were very effective against our defence. However, if Williamson can add some competition up top then I'll be more than happy.

 

I'm still worried about our defence, as Owen seems to be on the sidelines far too often, and with the number of injuries he's already sustained over the years I can't see him playing at this level into his 30's. He's wise enough to see this though, hence the early coaching career path. Will the big lad from Walsall be good enough? Only time will tell.

 

Midfield wise, we've got loads of options. I'm really stuggling to pick a starting 4 at the moment. If players start to drop off then they'll be more than adequate replacements to step in. I genuinely think that this squad has more options than for many years, and as a result we'll be better equipped to adapt to whatever is thrown at us. It's up to Micky now to utilise what we've got.

 

In conclusion, one decent striker, and one more option as cover at the back is required imo.

Have you based this on what you've seen in pre-season so far, or on where they've come from? Initially I wasn't overly optimistic about the players brought in, but I genuinely believe they'll bring far more energy to the squad than the likes of Exodus or Blizzard for example (journeymen)

Maybe would work? Maybe worth a go. Not much room to change things if they are going wrong though. Yates probably isn't the best right wing back in the world either.

 

You've not even considered how any of the new boys might fit into any plan that Micky is mustering up. I think our formations will be far more flexible this season in order to adapt to whatever te opposition throw at us.

Bit too early to say, for instance we haven't seen Burge play at all, and the others have only had 2 45-minute games each so far, and Crawley will be trickier than Stafford. Let's see what happens in North america, and also if we get another player.

 

A week ago loads of people were saying Marc Richards was gone, but his tweets say he is packing to go on tour with Vale, so looks like he is staying thankfully.
