Retained list?.

For what it's worth...

I'd offer new deals to: Pope, Veseli, O'Connor, Marshall, Dodds, Brown and then the young players (Smith, Lloyd, Boot OR Johnson)

That means releasing: Birchall, Mohammed, Nimely, Robertson, Yates, Williamson, Boot OR Johnson (seems silly to have two, although depending on their wage I wouldn't be disheartened if we kept both).

And from the current crop I would transfer list/release: Duffy, Daniel, Lines, McGivern OR Dickinson

That leaves a squad of:

GK - Neal

DEF - Veseli (CB/RB); McGivern OR Dickinson (LB/CB)

MID - Brown (DM); O'Connor (CM); Dodds (AM); Marshall (W); Moore (W)

ATT - Pope; Campion

Plus the young players: Boot OR Johnson; Bergin; Smith; Deen Conteh; Andoh; Steele; Reeves; Haughton; Lloyd; Kapend

That leaves a squad of 10 first team plus 10 young players. Therefore I would look to add:

- 2 attacking full backs

- 2 bruiser centre halves

- a defensive midfielder (Brown ain't going to play every game again)

- a Striker (a better Williamson)

With regards to the young players, I would look to send them out on loan for the season. Even if we still pay the wages, it's better for them to get proper first team experience as opposed to reserve football. However I wouldn't look to loaning them out to a level any lower than Conference north/south.

Then I'd double up on every position with promising young talent from prem clubs, so that there is enough competition for places - unless Page is seriously considering using our own young players.

Please explain why you'd keep Ryan Lloyd?

I'm hearing Ryan Lloyd been offered a deal!

If this is what Page is all about I'm worried!

I wouldn't be worried if I was you, he would make an excellent left back, if he has been offered a deal, then that would be the reason RP as offered such a deal.

Would he? He hasnt been able make our squad he's not young anymore either. Not shown enough improvement in last 4 years

Ede, must think he has made enough improvement, if he as put him forward for a new contract, the problem with the club over the last 4/5 seasons, is they would never give youth a chance, but I think that will change next season, with RP and new coaching staff running the playing side.

Page been picking the side since September so why hasn't lloyd been anywhere near it?

Injuries and probably not considered 'ready' during a season where Page played it very cautiously and defensively, we got the same players every week even when they consistently cost us goals through mistakes, eg, Robertson, Vaselli, Duffy.

I agree with Billbee, it's a squad game and we have a limited budget so signing low-cost lads who can possibly come in and do a job if needed is a good policy as long as it frees up enough budget to get a 1st 15-16 of real quality.

I found this article quite interesting, where Steve Cotterill explains his thinking behind building the Bristol City squad.

http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/32512953

a very interesting article, full of common sense, doubt if page has enough grey matter to apply any of that, nearly all his formations looked unbalanced, the only one that looked right was the home match against Donny.

Although I am generally pleased with the last 48 hours at Vale Park it does seem to me that we are going to rely on an awful lot of untried youngsters next year and having, what, 8-9 of them in the first team squad is maybe a bridge too far.

Mohamed Coulibaly released by Bournemouth, people think he's worth signing or not? I wasn't convinced by him on Sunday, he has a bit of pace & trickery but didn't seem to know what to do with a lot of the time.

he might turn out ok with a full pre season under his belt.

Wasn't aware of any major injuries suffered by lloyd.

Indeed is a squad game.

And Lloyd definitely low cost but made 3, yes three appearances in last two seasons, so probably cost 7-10k per appearance. If he was good enough, or developing into good enough he would have made an impression. He'll be 22 during next season!

We've given lots of youth a chance in Morsy, Grimmer, Knott, Innis, Streete, Hughil, Johnson etc. They just have to be ready and most importantly good enough.
