Why would you do that in the middle of the season? It would disrupt the squad morale and all sorts. Review the situation at the end of the campaign.

I'd avoid doing this until close season but I'd have change of captain on my to do list. You need someone who's a shoe in for a first team place and that should rule out Dickinson imo.

Brown I think already has a leadership position and one season on might start to show his age. Pope doesn't want it and might not even be here.the current "shoe ins" in my opinion are Neal, Vesili, Yates, O'Connor, Marshall. New season would bring a couple of new signings in of course but difficult to see an outstanding leader out of that bunch and current shoe in doesn't always guarantee shoe in next season. Mmmmm don't know.

I agree but sometimes the captaincy affects the individuals own form. Dicko was a far better player last term when he wasn't the captain. With this in mind it could be worth a try.

I think those worrying about Pope are jumping the gun. Would we buy a striker who is out of action and has not shown the best of form this season? I honestly do not think many clubs in League's one and two would pay a fee, thereby restricting his options. He is not championship quality and again would they even be interested. His name will not be on the circulation list at this moment I would not have thought being out!

id give the captaincy to brown makes sense to me as hes the most experienced player and he has played in the prem and championship the whole of his career.

If you remember resigning of the existing squad were slow and this possibly affected the ST sales and Dickinson was eventually the first to commit and at that time I said he has been promised the captaincy as a hook.

I agree that Popey shouldn't be captain, but not for the reasons you suggest. A captain needs to be a leader, with footballing vision and experience, and a certain amount of passion. That's why Dicko was picked in the first place - Popey has plenty of passion (he's a Vale fan) but perhaps not the leadership quality.

 

Michael Brown would be the obvious choice but how much longer is he going to be playing? Lines has discipline issues and I don't know enough about O'Connor's qualities as a leader to judge. How about just leaving it to Page to decide?
