A chance of promotion, yes of course I would take that! It's the whole point of football. If we went up of course we would struggle, if we went up id want a budget that the club could remain safe with, (off the pitch financially). I would be more than happy to see us up next year and then struggle in the championship. We have a good group of players that usually play as a team, and for one another, for me that's more important than having luxury players in the side not worth their value, and there are a lot of championship clubs like that. If we went up we live within our means and play as a team and hope to stay up, which would be a brilliant achievement.

I think Peterborough and Bristol city and Sheff utd will be strengthened a lot for next season. Preston and Walsall and Mk dons will be close to the top six and I think it will be a bit of battle but I think we would be able to do it if we bring in 5 quality players in the summer :). I Can't wait for next season :).

I'd be interested to know what Yeovils budget was this year. On the face of it it seems like thy went for my 2nd scenario: new they couldn't compete, pocketed the money and accepted relegation. Would our fans accept that?

I don't think they would. Success is very easily forgotten and failure consumes it: look how quickly some of our fans turned on the club this year.

Being relegated would be disastrous for us at the moment.

Our attacking mentality this season saw us win enough games early on to not only stay up, but to flirt with the thought of the play-offs.

Next season I expect other teams will have sized us up a little more and be aware as to what to expect. We certainly need to be much better defensively, but will that curb our forward prowess?

It won't be an easy season and anyone who believes the league is there for the taking is, in my mind missing the plot.

With the addition of the right players we can compete, that's for sure, question is......if we are in a good position come January will the club take the gamble ?

The memories of any promotion season, no matter what division you have gone up from, will always be special, cherished and memorable.

We all loved the promotion season of the 2012/13, not many of us will forget that in a hurry, especially after a near 20 year wait.

Anyhow, of course we would all love to re-live some of the classic 1990s battles with the big boys, and getting Vale Park rocking again on a much more regular basis if we were to play teams like Birmingham, Wolves, Notts Forest, Leeds, Derby etc more often, which would be the case if we were to play Championship football. Most if not all of those sides would probably fill the Hamil End for starters, or at least come very close to. Much more revenue for the Vale arriving from this source alone.

Nobody is saying it wouldn't be a struggle at times, of course it would; but a promotion to the 2nd tier would well and truly put the Vale back on the footballing map imo.

Teams on like Yeovil, Colchester and Scunthorpe have all done it in recent years and got promoted to the Championship on smallish budgets and you can argue they are all smaller clubs than the Vale. Leyton Orient went very close at the end of this season. So why can't we do it?
