This is incredible

http://www.expressandstar.com/news/2013/09/19/200-police-officers-on-patrol-for-wolves-v-shrewsbury-derby/

200, repeat 200 police on duty for this match....at

- a club with no history of large-scale problems

- a 1pm kick-off

- a ground so easily policed compared to Vale Park or others

Shrews normally "have it" with Walsall, Vale and Wrexham and haven't any real rivalry with Wolves.

In any case, how hard is it in a town the size of Shrewsbury to be on top of any problem?

It really is time for heads to roll over this, because the police, where football is concerned, are

TOTALLY CLUELESS!!

It was interesting to note that the 'wall' turned up again on Tuesday night at Molineux for the derby match with Walsall.

Funny how we never saw it before, and we may never see it again, but it's turned up twice in the space of a month at two Wolves fixtures.

It makes you wonder whether the Police actually did insist on it because of our fans, or because of theirs?

More of a point is that the wall did obviously not work as VP made national news yet the Police continue to use it and charge clubs for using it. They would be better using these funds on stewards for in and around the ground, I think 5K was the cost of that wall which is about 200 stewards.

I wonder if it is a relatively new purchase - in which case, it could be the police simply coming up with enough "justification" for buying it regardless of whether it actually works or not?

It seems to be in vogue over recent years:

Both teams have history of being involved with hooliganism.

Do you really think the Shrewsbury chavs are going to care who they 'have it' with? Have they even played Wolves in recent years?

And the crowd will be much bigger than normal anyway due to the fact it is Wolves

I'm amazed it's not more than 200.

Too true bud and the police hope there will be trouble to justify their presence and numbers

And there WILL be trouble the plod will ensure they cause suitable tensions and create a hostile situation before allowing a bit of handbags to boil over to a ridiculous level before completely losing control and wading in batons first in shear panic as they lose control.....I believe I made this exact statement before the vale/wolves game.

It’s hilarious to see... the police want trouble to justify the presence and funding of a nice riot training exercise. The idiots want any excuse to kick off and both parties are only too happy to oblige in this ridiculous post match police training exercise.... shame the normal fans get caught up in the middle and tarnished as 'hooligans' the club gets handed a hefty bill and the police seem to be allowed to behave however they want with no repercussions to their actions.

But that's a protest march not a football match..there is a good chance that all 500 in that march were to a greater or lesser extent out for trouble..IMO

If you look at the arrests made when the EDL are in town it is high as you said but you have made the mistake of who is arrested its the people protesting against the marches not the EDL members. The last Tower Hamlets march had it's route changed due to the police saying the could not control the people protesting against the march if it went into Tower Hamlets itself and the police commissioner stated in court that the EDL were not likely to cause trouble.
