"Anyone who knows me personally will know that I only ever want a win for my team,"

"This has always been the case and, on occasions when I have very occasionally bet against my club over the last 10 years, I would always have been very happy to lose the stake and take the result.

In 2008 Accrington lost a match against Bury 2-0. Three Accrington players and one Bury player each put four figure sums on Bury to win. Another Accrington player had a fiver on them in an acca.

Here's an article from the time of the investigation. Interestingly, Rob Heys is quoted in the piece so there shouldn't be any excuse for him not being acquainted with the laws.

He is an idiot to abuse his position with accy, you don't bet against your club when you are it's chief exec or md, the fans would expect him to leave the club asap and his statement has more than a whiff of bulls droppings especially after his own statement about the players if caught doing the self same thing.

I dont understand why hes an idiot, unless its the fact he lost £2300 in the bets.

The first rule of leadership is to set a good example and tone from the top. In the case of banking failures and NHS failures recently and so many other serious failures it is this factor at the very heart of most problems.

But he has influence at the club so could be tempted to make decisions that make him more likely to win his bet; he may have done so but they didn't work out.

Anyway it's the principle that's more important than a particular instance.
