  1. Frustrating. It nearly went to extra time which would have helped PV on Wednesday. Extra time is only allowed in the final.
  2. Tranmere chairman reiterates need for investment if club are to progress WWW.WIRRALGLOBE.CO.UK
  3. Just watching a David Seaman interview at Wembley. He played for Peterborough at the start of his career. But the interesting point he made - not checked - is that Peterborough have the youngest team in the entire EFL. What hope can I take from that? Maybe inconsistency and lack of experience at the business end of the season.
  4. I know our game midweek is big, but we need Carlisle to show up at Cheltenham on Tuesday and Bristol Rovers (in freefall presently) to show up there next weekend. They have two home games in a row. they will see as bankers This is their make or break week.
  5. The report on the PV website paints a picture of Wigan having and missing a lot of chances. PV hung on for a draw etc. But the stats say it was 13 shots each and PV were on target 4 times v Wigan's 2. Both teams had barn door issues, but PV slightly less?
  6. Moore has recognised that he simply has to play Garrity in proper midfield and he has therefore been prepared to sacrifice him playing as an attacking forward. It's a pragmatic decision that at least gives us more resilience.
  7. Peterborough play Wycombe at Wembley today. There is extra time allowed in the final - oh please God! So we will have 24 hours extra recovery time on them on Wednesday. All my experience as a spectator tells me never stand toe to toe punching with a better team that has better players. Carlisle won 3-1 there recently with a midfielder scoring a hat trick. So it is possible we can do something.
  8. I've been twice tangled tonight - a good thing - but not if it happens again tomorrow afternoon.
  9. We let our top scorer go and did not replace with an equivalent. Then resigned a forward we know is injury prone and does not score enough anyway at L1 level - panic resigning at that. Brought in a reserve striker from rival club Bristol Rovers who they let go obviously because he does not score enough. Brought in another striker who is similar to what we had - big, strong, but who was months away from fitness. Did give opportunity to Dipepa but although he's ready now, he wasn't at the start of the season. None of this is good at all. We've ended up with a platoon for attackers who don't score enough goals but the evidence to indicate that would be the case was very present in historical records. Fair dues, Chislett showed promise quickly and Garrity was a good retention. But in the present moment, it's not over until the fat lady sings. With better organisation we may still have enough to stay up.
  10. Too many shots off target and worst of all he injures the spectators.
  11. My weather app says its going to be relatively warm at 16 degrees, windy but dry.
  12. Old testament. In the new testament Chislett got three against these at PV and therefore I guess we need to give him the chance to produce another miracle.
  13. In Sinai, Moses first encountered God in the form of a burning bush. "I have observed the misery of my people who are in Egypt". God's voice called out to him (Exodus 3.7). God then charged Moses to lead the Israelites out of bondage and bring them to the Promised Land. That went well? Anyway, I'm God for the weekend and I'm charging Darren Moore to lead the players out of Wigan after he's managed them to get 3 points.
  14. Arblaster starts in central midfield for Sheff Utd at Anfield tonight.
  15. Wigan's recent home form has been to draw 1-1 with Burton, win 1-0 against Blackpool, win 1-0 against Orient. That's not bad, but their recent propensity to only score once offers hope and Orient had Galbraith (not the economist) sent off on 42 mins. They were behind for a few mins v Burton. Against Blackpool they managed only 4 shots but the 1 on target went in. I am looking for daylight at midnight of course!
  16. Carlisle's previous away game was a 3-1 win at Peterborough. I know Carlisle are bottom and relegated. But they are not hopeless and in their last few away games they lost 3-2 at Charlton, lost 1-0 at Shrewsbury and won 3-1 at Peterborough. They haven't been pushovers in these games and it makes them plausible at nervous Cheltenham.
  17. I think 10 points from 6 games has a good chance of staying up. 9 of those points can come from home wins. That will equal last season's total when we finished 18th. Just at the minute Cambridge and Reading have matched our last three results preventing us gaining ground despite winning two games. Cambridge are at Blackpool and Reading at home to Lincoln. If we can win going to 42 points and they lose, then they come back within plausible reach. Cheltenham are at Orient and I hope that does for them as Orient are due a result after a run of tough games. Burton seem to be in freefall and we need to hope their parachute doesn't open. But it is all about us. We need to go to Wigan and win. We can do it if we keep the backdoor shut. Imagine Burton lose, Cheltenham lose and PV win. PV then 5th bottom 2 points above Burton with a game in hand. Cheltenham then 4 points behind and desperate to win their game in hand. It can change quickly, but we must do the business.
  18. Baylee Dipepa is a clone of Leon Chiwome of Wolves who made his PL debut last weekend. 7 games for England U17s, 3 goals. 2 games for England U18s, 1 goal. So we can rule out Wolves being interested in him.
  19. It's been several months since Chislett was effective. I don't know what is going on, but we have seen him too deep picking up the ball and dribbling to be effective as a goal scorer from advanced midfield / wide forward. He's also started getting tackled much more in the second half of the season - fair dues in that if no one else poses much of a threat the opposition will concentrate on him. Now he seems to have got one foot disease when it comes to shooting? He has gone massively backwards since the New Year. I can see why Moore took him off v Northampton. But I do hope he can get fixed this week and turn up as the player he was in the remaining games from the bench or starting. If so, I'd close his hatchback and take him off the forecourt.
  20. Going back to Sang. When he was recruited I looked at his history. He has been at some good clubs - Cardiff, Cheltenham, St Johnstone. He battled away at Cardiff but couldn't become a regular at Championship level. When he went to Cheltenham, he was mainly a sub. He got some reasonable game time at St Johnstone. At PV I think it's unfortunate for him and PV he got injured around the New Year. Flitcroft referred to him as a midfield player. But at PV and other clubs he has often found himself at RB / WB etc. To me, wherever he plays, his need for improvement is marking and tackling. He's pretty good on the ball and can cross OK even if not outstanding. My overall opinion - good squad player if we were in L2, but we are in L1 and he's not nailed down a place. Often sub appearances, occasionally runs in a team.
  21. I thought Lopata was the good in the air dominant centre half we needed when recruited. Except he isn't. Debra is our player. I watched Altrincham v Oldham a little while on Monday because it fluked on to TV. Conlon playing. Also another player of interest in James Norward. It is a massive step down to the National League from L1 from what I saw. Therefore it's a massive step up for Debrah. But I think there is material to work with and I'm keen to see him stay a while. Interesting was Norward, previously playing for Barnsley and past of Tranmere where I saw him a few time. Norward was very quick and a prolific scorer at Tranmere. But now looks what he is - a bearded forward approaching mid 30's that's lost sharpness. So my point there is that as a striker he will be on a good wedge at Oldham. But I can absolutely see why Barnsley let him go. There are expensive mistakes to be made by retaining or recruiting strikers at our level. However, that being the case it was hard for PV to get it more wrong with our forwards that we have. The only one I would actively recruit is Garrity and he is really an advanced midfielder / forward.
  22. Put Chislett out front with his tailgate up. A more nuanced transfer strategy is needed for the others mentioned above. That includes perhaps contract renegotiation to keep Garrity if needed.
  23. I watched this game by commentary and statistically. Now I have seen the highlights. The two people getting shots on target were Garrity and Lacovitti. Smith also managed an attempt. The forwards did nothing. Looking at the highlights, Chilslett annoys me because he could have got a shot away and didn't in the first. I am not surprised he got taken off. Moore would give Dipepe and Loft second chances at half time because they have recently scored. It's all up front this game as to why we lost - surely someone should have scored including Uche when he came on. We are paying the price for letting our top scorer last season leave and not bringing in an equivalent replacement who surely would have slotted against Northampton.
