  1. I watched his interview about his circumstances and issues. The problems at Leicester - financial fair play rules and sustainability - were a surprise to him after he came back from holiday. But from all he said he was committed to the Leicester project so to speak. I guess I am making too sweeping a statement as money and opportunity talk. An attainable big job at a big club in England doesn't come up that often. But I would add a new dimension here. I saw Rogers as a manager at Liverpool. I saw Klopp as a manager soon after he left and since. I mean by going to live games. Klopp is a significantly better manager because he has the team much better drilled. In particular Klopp teams play forward and don't go round in circles stuck in midfield passing around. Also they press very effectively. For me Klopp is a top level manager and Rogers in in the group below. I don't think Chelsea will be after him.
  2. It's a tough ask in the PL as Spurs, Man Utd, Newcastle and Arsenal appear stronger. The Likes of Liverpool and Chelsea face more competition. Meanwhile City have signed the best player in the world for the next decade.
  3. Rodgers can't get out of Leicester. Me thinks. This is football and anything could happen. Third coming of the Special One!
  4. Looks like Graham Potter favourite. He'll get sustainable way of working like Klopp has done at Liverpool. Brighton get a big bung and find a new small guy.
  5. Money talks I guess when it's a living you have to make in a short span insecure whirlpool of a profession. But aside from that surely Sunderland is a bigger club than Stoke with a much bigger and better stadium and more committed support. There is no way I would swap Sunderland for Stoke City. He'll miss Minchella's as well.
  6. I guess Stoke won't be selling anymore of their young players and signing / loaning crocks to replace them. They look in relegation trouble with the transfer window closure days away. That said Nottingham Forrest got promoted after being bottom this time last year by way of a manager sacking. Darrell Clarke to Stoke City?
  7. I lost some of my high impression of Usyk. He can pitter patter around with AJ who is a manufactured boxer with insufficient natural talent. That's why he doesn't get enough punches off because he hasn't got muscle intelligence and he's thinking about everything. But get in with Fury who is bigger and naturally talented and I think Fury walks over and flattens Usyk in about 3 rounds.
  8. I found this an extraordinary fight. I felt Usyk won by several rounds. So did everyone else pretty much except the judges. AJ did have a run of good punches in a couple of rounds that troubled him a bit but then normal service resumed. It could be much closer if the definition of a punch is changed such that Usyk must hit AJ harder. Alternatively it's deemed a lot more punches than I thought were blocked on the gloves. AJ stands around not doing much and doesn't let his hands go. His punch volume is much lower than Usyk. Overall I can't see where AJ goes from here. I feel Fury and Wilder would render him horizontal in the first half of a fight. Other fights are accepting a step down and he may lose those including to Joe Joyce. Time to retire unless he's on a promise somehow.
  9. AJ would have to improve significantly to win. If he starts fast he is likely to gas in the second half of the fight.
  10. Before Wilder lost to Fury, I think there were several fights he should have lost had the opponent, who was a better boxer, had simply seen out the fight they were winning. To do that the opponent needed to stay out of the way of the haymaker by way of turning up for the fight in better physical condition. Wilder improved markedly against Fury.
  11. I hope the track at Chesterton has an estate built on it that is worthy as a replacement community asset. I like to visit the Potteries and reminisce aside from the football. So for example, I am pleased with the estate that has replaced Priory Road Infants School in Newcastle Under Lyme. I have watched a bit of speedway again on TV. It seems to be thriving in Poland and Scandinavia and other 'East European' countries. But on its heels in the UK. I guess TV money is essential in keeping it going. But that doesn't underpin the lower league levels nor develop riders. And so to the turning point for speedway. The electric bike! Will there need to be artificial revving noises!??
  12. Yes, total respect for Joe, Tom and other riders who sustained injuries at speedway and also long track racing which is more popular on the continent. When you think about it a speedway rider usually races 4-5 times per meeting at say 70 seconds per race. But in that short amount of time there is significant danger from crashing in to each other, crashing in to the fence and simply falling off on a rock hard gravel track.
  13. Not lived in the area since 1987, so not been to speedway since the mid 1980's. At the start of Loomer road I remember Mike Broadbank. He got the reformed team off to a good start with quality riding and leadership as someone who reached the world championship finals a few times. Oh well, sad to hear of the closure, but if it is not being run properly and therefore not entertaining then that's what happens. My favourite rider of all time that I have watched is Ole Olsen.
  14. I think the fight showed up the limits of Joshua's boxing talent. Ruiz has more talent. He has also balanced weight better than it appears. He has power under the flab and therefore the flab adds impact when he punches and Joshua could not take it.
  15. I saw the Wilder v Ortiz fight. Wilder should have lost that. He only didn't because Ortiz was not in physically good enough shape and faded in the later rounds leaving himself open to the hay-maker. I think Ortiz wins this fight if he gets in really good shape.
  16. I thought Breazeale was hopeless. The overhead replay of the round showed what he did. It was just unbelievable, dropped left hand guard again and again and got a hammer punch. So Wilder can definitely hit really hard. But he should have lost his two previous fights. It would help if the opponent turned up fit for the job. Otherwise he just waits until the opponent gases and then lamps him. That is what happened with Ortiz who fully fit would have won easily against Wilder. To me Ruis is also going to turn up as blubber man against AJ. But I have seen him fight once and he does have good skill. So I expect him to last a few rounds.
  17. Looking forward to Wilder v Breazeale on Saturday 18th May. Wilder is not very good at boxing except that he manages to lamp someone once a match. Surely his number must be up soon.
  18. Really enjoyed the fight tonight. It is possible to underestimate Joshua. Povetkin was a seriously good fighter and really dangerous and skilful. Yet Joshua rode the setback of nose injury, learned how to take Povetkin punches and the low punches to the body that seemed trivial were not. They did for Povetkin ultimately allowing the explosive end. I semi worry about Joshua's nose. He has a recurring problem and needs to get it fixed. Otherwise there will be an occasion where he can't overcome it or it gets damaged worse and worse and worse. Why am I enjoying boxing!?
  19. Paid to watch Groves v Eubank Junior last night. There was a huge gulf in ability with Eubank only offering braveness to keep going and throwing hay makers that miss by feet. Somehow Groves did himself an injury and dislocated his shoulder in the last round. Even then Eubank couldn't hit him. One has to suppose that Groves will stay world champion until a top level boxer emerges, as I don't think he is a great.
  20. Looking forward to 28 Oct and pleased Whyte added. Another heavyweight bout, can't stand a card full of midget boxing in the build up.
