Tesco selling horse meat.

Probably the most surprising thing about this is that it has taken so long to surface - it has clearly been going on for decades. Much more worrying is the filth added to processed food in general, and what is sold at places like burger bars and street stalls.

There was a programme featuring Ye Olde Oak hot dogs a while ago which would have put any sane person off eating them for life - with nicely named ingredients like 'Mechanically recovered meat' (beaks and claws ?) and there was not only nothing of nutritional value in them at all, but a number of things that were suspect.

Basically, a lot of people don't care waht they eat, which is fine as long as the rest of us get properly labelled food.

You can buy all sorts from a street stall here but its all WYSIWYG.... and its all fresh.

Dog, Cat, Snake, Rat, Scorpion, Silk worms, Frogs and more insects than you could count [if they were alive... and some are]... the stalls also sell fish so fresh its still jumping about in the bag as you drive home.

You shouldnt knock what other people eat, its choice and availability with a little cost thrown in... with processed food you get pot luck.... you can always choose to skip the label and buy fresh.

The phrase "mechanically recovered meat" always makes me think of a giant robot with pincers stripping the flesh off dead animals.

I try not to eat anything with this phrase on the box. Thing is you can now doubt all labels on all meat products.

What's more worrying,is the fact that you don't get to see the labels in takeaways and restaurants?

Findus now in competition with Tesco, some of their beef lasagne contains 100% horsemeat.

Isn't this fraud when it says beef on the packet?

they've taken the lasagne off the shelves but left those ready meals on sale because they know we enjoy them and their ingredients such as ears, lips, eyes, brains, internal organs and various genitalia, enjoy!!!!!!

With all the bad press that processed food has had over the years I don't understand why people eat this shte !!.

We have **** poor food labelling standards in this country. When a product says whatever % meat the product consists of that MEAT is made up of fat.gristle, connective tissue, brains, skin, beaks, ear holes, **** holes, balls,****,tongues,& loads of other stuff that would make a billy goat PUKE !.

Writing this has put me right off me donner kebab !!

As someone who hasn't eaten any flesh off any animal, human or otherwise for over 23 years I don't understand what all the fuss is about. Flesh is flesh, be it cow, hoss or squirrel - yes they sell that locally here in north London, so make sure your pies and burgers don't have fluffy tales in them at Barnet.
