Taylor and Yates

I've already said it but I think Taylor was man of the match! Defending, going forward and crossing were all spot on! Yates is Mr consistent and doesn't deserve the stick he gets from fans! He drops the odd ******* but who hasn't in our defence over the last 2seasons? Duffy is a quality defender and that is it. He's there to defend though so can't really knock him. For some strange reason he's been very average and sometimes poor at home and one of our best players consistently away from home? Think our big pitch doesn't help him with his lack of pace

I know many don't rate him but I like Taylor. Good athlete, turn of pace and can centre a good cross and can cover variety of postions.

I was there at Northampton and I think that has majorly dented his confidence and knocked him back, Forest Green being the most obvious example.

He does need to improve his defending and concentration though, he isn't getting any younger either so he needs to show the improvement soon.

My brother was/is a very vehement critic of both and particularly their inconsistency. However he has had to bite his lip and shut up based on Yates's recent performances (particularly so when he played left back). Taylor is still very in and out on performances but his crossing can be world beating at times so I am hopeful he can work on his positioning and decision making when playing defensively so that he to can keep my brother quiet!

I was happy with Taylor at left back yesterday. He did put in some very good crosses. He was good enough defensively yesterday as well. I think he is too inconsistent to be in the team further forward and a little bit predictable there as well. That consistency issue is a problem potentially in defence where is prone to lapses. Maybe he is the guy for left back at home and Duffy / Yates go there away. I think Yates has to have a left footed player ahead of him if he plays left back.

Yesterday was a difficult game to judge. I thought Plymouth were considerably better than their league position and but for them having a nutter in the team the game would have been closer. But in the end they were just quite difficult to breakdown and the Vale team had to produce some good quality goals to get through them. The keeper should have prevented the first, but it took a slight deflection and JMW has a pokey left foot it is easy to underestimate.

I think Yates is miles better than Duffy no idea how he could play for Wales. Shows how bad Wales are.

Haha yates is shocking most of the time. Duffy is ten times the player Yates is. Thats the first post you made and what a stupid one it is.

Clownish remarks like that are out of order. As stated many times previously everyone has their own opinions but to state what you did suggesting Duffy is 10 times player Yates is clearly proves you anner got a flipping clue. Your saving grace is that you are a Vale fan so I will excuse you but accept both full backs are OK and the vast majority of true Valiants now have had the grace to confirm Yates' prominence in the team, so do us a favour and try and see good things in our players.

Not saying Duffy is a bad player just saying Yates is better. Duffy seems to have lost his way a bit needs to spend some games on the bench so he will fight for it more. Yates might not have the pace but he is steady and doesn't make many mistakes. He has been good this year. He might find it hard in league 1 though

Yates was decent and didn't do nothing wrong.

First half Taylor got caught out a few times and have the ball away a few times unneeded.

Taylor put a great ball into the box for the pope header and I will give it Taylor, he does put a good delivery into the box.

To be fair though second half none of them had a thing to do and didn't have to mark a winger.

Don't get carried away with Taylor not making a mistake when he didn't have to defend all second half. Like I say he had a stready game which you'd expect when not having to mark anyone.

We still need an out and out specialist left back without doubt.

Good post Steve.

You can only beat what's put in front of you and Plymouth helped our cause by going down to ten men but as Fleetwood proved we are very vunerable at home when teams with pace get at our defence.I'm still not convinced with our home form and prefer to postpone judgement until we have played a decent team like Bradford at home.

Personally I've always supported Yates and believe he never deserved the stick he got in the first place.

What pleased me yesterday was looking at our subs bench and realising that all of those players would not so long ago have been considered good enough for automatic selection. (Birchall excepted, who will in a few games time be running the Vale midfield)
