v Gillingham: 22.09.2012; all the pre game stuff

I think we all need to do our best during the week or so and try and get as may people who don't normally go or who used to go but have lost interest to the Vale V Gillingham match. I have already managed to persuade my lady's folks who live in Mancheser to visit Vale Park for the Gillingham match so that they can hopefully witness another fine Vale performance but more importantly, bring an extra £40 to add to the gate by them attending. Hopefully more fans will do the same and we will see a bumper gate at the match which in turn will provide the club with extra cash as a result. Up the Vale.

Two seasons ago when we were going for the top of the league before Micky left at Xmas, Gillingham came and got a 0-0 draw in one of the most awful matches I have ever witnessed at Vale Park. There were almost no goalmouth incidents and I can't remember another game where Vale didn't even get a single corner, as happened in that game.

Sorry to put a downer on the crowd expectations but 5500k max for me. This area is in a massive downturn that unless youre in it you dont appreciate. That and the draw of premiership glory down the road has made massive inways into our fanbase. That aside, I am desperate to hear something positive off field, as well as the team are doing our very existence us very much in the balance. Give me personally a new owner over 2nd place anyday. If RS think that's negative then tough ****, its reality.

We pulled in something like 7500 against Shrewsbury on a Tuesday night the other season.

5500 after a win at Fleetwood would be poor.

That freak gate is quoted so often it is getting to be a very tired statistic. I cant remember how many Shrewsbury brought, but they could have gone top if they won and it was probably near to 1,000 and Gillingham may well bring 250 or so.

It was well into the season too, not just 6 games, and the civil war between Vale fans has certainly eroded some support regardless of who is to blame and stuff like that. There is no great attraction to Gillingham either, as I posted previously they visited 2 years ago and played out a ghastlyand mind-numbingly boring 0-0 draw where we didnt even acheive a single corner. The Shrewsbury game had been hyped up a lot in the buildup and the local derby element added to the crowd figure.

So unless we win at Fleetwood (possible but I would take a draw right now) and/or get some positive club buyer news, then 5,500 won't be bad and will keep our heads above the break-even figure nicely.

More the reason we need to progress up to the next league, as the away support attending Vale Park is pathetic in this league.

Mainly because there are few local teams down with us.

Can't expect Barnet and Torquay to bring many.

Most teams are at least 100 miles away.
