Match Thread: Birmingham v Port Vale (League Cup)

Think we really grew into that. At first looked tentative due to the quality of their players but then once we hit our stride I think we are full value for the lead. Lovely move for the goal from the slide-rule pass to the cross and header.

Third best away record last season

Just a bit of fun. SVA have been immense. One of the best atmospheres I've been in for a long time.

Tbf that is an excellent cross from Croasdale.

Well, they had about 15 minutes of that half...40 according to some of the planks on here! The last 15 minutes has been the best football of the game so far, and their keeper has made 2 decent saves...try giving your team some credit, for a change!

Not sure who you’re calling a plank when you compared Byers to Faal this morning.

Lovely ball that, and pass from Walters initially.

What formation are we playing?

Mainly Brownian motion.

Got to be 3 of those 4 starting every game, with Shipley and Ojo off the bench as and when. That’s the foundation of the midfield for me. Can’t keep playing variations of 3 of 6 in the league and expect consistency.

Ojo has been doing great. But I just think Walters offers something different to him, Garrity and Shipley. Obviously nice to have options and depth though.

Sounds like they are bringing Stansfield on.

Croasdale so important for our attacking moves when he’s able to get forward. A few lovely runs and excellent cross.

Sounds like the Sky commentator is the same one as on Paramount Plus stream, useless.

Pleased for Headley who has had a tough start to the season albeit some of it self inflicted at Rotherham.  The commentator is tripe. Said that Tommy Doyle was the son of Mike Doyle, the old Man City player before realising the age gap was too big and Mike Doyle was his grandad. Then said he had 2 Man City players in his blood because his middle name is Glynn, after Glynn Pardoe.  In his blood? I turned him off after 15 minutes because he was so patronising.

Anyway, back to the game - Walters doing well against their midfield - I love the fact that he backs himself to turn them and play a forward pass, rather than settle for the safe backwards pass. Long way to go, and they will have been bollocked at half time, but if they continue to fail to deal with our set pieces, I can see us scoring again.  Just seen they have called in Stansfield second half - well done Vale, you made them play a stronger line up.

Big guns on for Birmingham.

Their goalkeeper going down so they could have a tactical break worked more in our favour than theirs. Before that we looked hopeless but afterwards we looked fantastic.

lets hope our half time talk is also better than theirs

Bringing the big guns on now

Go on lads!
