Ollie Arblaster

Recommended Posts

I reckon a full season in the Championship in a team who will possibly top 7 next season,  and then he'll move on .
I'm not going predict a Liverpool, Spurs type move but I'm sure in 18 months time he'll be a regular in a Premier league side.
Could see him at Brentford or Brighton.
Think our owners were possible guests of the Arblaster family last night. Pics of them in the stadium.
Pre season friendly with the Blades?

This love in is getting a bit ridiculous.

Yes, he was amazing for a few months.

But he wasn't ever our player.

People acting like he came through our youth system and got sold to Sheff.

We get NOTHING for any success he might have now.

He's gone. Move on.

It doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy & reflect his time spent here

I would have preferred a half decent wing back and a more balanced side, he has a brilliant future in front of him but as far as the Vale are concerned him and Devine were vanity projects for Flitcroft I also wonder how much of a loan fee we paid money that could have gone in filling the huge gaps in the squad.

Showed a lot more balls than some of those who are our players ! Some of them should be embarrassed that he's being spoke of as player of the season but they won't care.

Only 2 games won when both Arblaster and Devine started the games. Northampton and Wigan at home. Great potential but poor decisions ultimately from the club to allow deals where they could go back in January. Lessons for the future when loaning players. Devine only looked good once Arblaster got injured in the Middlesbrough game and was struggling to hold down a place until then

The loan system is set up that 12 month loans can be recalled or sent back in January. Those are the rules which can benefit both clubs for different reasons. Vale didn't have a choice, you cannot demand to have a loan player for 12 months without an option for him to be recalled.

It's a simple and obvious solution, one that yet again we didn't show any common sense over:

Loans should supplement the squad. Not build the team around them.

We were on a hiding to nothing.

They do well, they get recalled in Jan. They do badly, we're stuck with a player we don't want.

I suppose there are pro's and con's to the loan system.

You can get players who supplement and improve the squad. Pro

You get players like Arblaster who improve the squad but get recalled. Con

If the player is not good enough you can send him back Pro

You can bring in a loan who you might be looking to sign permanently and see if he fits the bill, if not you can send him back after 6 months and not be stuck with a player on a 1 or 2 year contract, which has happened with a number of our permanent players this season.

The cons far outweigh the pros.

The biggest con is we postponed Saturday games to fit international call ups. Losing ticket revenue and quite possibly, in our case, points and our league 1 standing.

If a young loan joins us he spends time getting up to speed. Then when showing potential gets recalled by his owning club. We then have to start again.

Or if he is a loan we want to look at before signing then when we try to sign him we are out bid (as per the goalscorer who left us for Bradford? Some seasons ago)

We have been relegated because of an egotistical DOF who brought in young prem/championship loans, promoted our own academy too soon, and failed in his basic number one job of signing league 1 competent and experienced players to play in their recognised positions.

Sorry to go off topic ...

Congratulations to you Ollie. You appear to be a good guy who has a long, successful, career in front of you.

I just wish we, as a club, had not based our 'process' on a project where everyone benefitted except the Vale.

Do we not send players out on loan for players and our benefit. Some work out some don't. The quality of player we will get depends on our league status and reputation, all clubs do it. Players cost whether loan or not, all are a risk, irrespective of money. Main thing is to have a balanced squad with ample cover.

Good player is Arblaster, hope he goes from strength to strength, at least Vale played a small part in his development.

On the other side of the coin it's surprising how little effect Gore, Weir, Mighten and Lopata had on Vale's fortunes since January. Injury played some part but Gore and Mighten looked good on paper but footie isn't played on paper, Weir had played 40 odd games in Lge 1 for Morecambe and scored 10 goals, he looked a player at times but wasn't consistent, similar for Lopata.
