In hindsight it looks like a lot of gambles were taken to stretch the budget e.g. The hope that Loft would be better, Wilson would score more, Uche would have scored more and not get a long term injury, Grant would be better and play more and if not Shorrock would be able to fill in better, the Yak and Smith being better, Clark and Garrity not to have been injured for so long, list goes on. 

All in all the gambles have failed and not bringing in a better forward (and letting Harrison go), left back and I would also say left centre back has cost us dearly.

The cost us at the start of the season and they've cost us even more since January

Harrison an odd one now he's gone. Not getting a look in at a team in a lower league yet put him up front tonight and I personally feel he improves us.

However he's a bit of a nomad and doesn't last anywhere for long.

Agree, if you remember at the time when he was sold there were rumours that he had fell out with another player.

We will never know, all we know is that we didn't replace his goals.

The exasperating thing is that we made exactly the same mistakes last season. Went in to the season with an incomplete squad, Flitcroft gambling on some stupid shortcut (2 cheapo keepers rather than spending some money on arguably the most important player in the team), ended up playing games without any forwards and sank down the table. I remember us limping out of the league cup due to having nothing up front and the usuals all bleating that it was fine, we never did well in that competition anyway. Then bleating that we were saving our budget in January so we could splurge on decent players in the close season, and that recruitment was poor because we had a short pre-season and "no League One muscle memory" (FFS). I don't mind gambles and mistakes, so long as you learn from them. DF clearly isn't. For all his list of players that we missed out on in January, it all comes back to his decision during the summer that we weren't going to invest in a strikeforce. He seemed to think he was quite clever when he announced that last year.

We won't sign anybody.  I'll be astonished if we do.

And it's 6 games too late anyway. As  Uche trudged off our DOF should of been on his laptop immediately searching for 

1. A replacement 

2. An additional striker .

We got nothing. Good one David. The nearly man.

Since our promotion, Flitcroft has been a total failure, on our third manager since then, heading to division 2 with a worse squad than we had at Wembley. He has been a complete failure yet Carol has promoted him to full time and fully backed him. There is no ifs or buts, he has to be sacked and may as well do it now and start the recruitment to replace him, this time completing a formal recruitment process, not just someone telling her what she needs and they will take on the task.
