Port Vale have announced that Matt Hancock has been appointed as the club’s new CEO. Hancock replaces Colin Garlick who left the club in March 2023. Hancock was previously Community and CSR Director at the club. This is a really exciting time for the football club and I fully believe that with high performance across […]

That seems like a positive move for me. I think we badly needed a permanent replacement for Colin Garlick and from all I've heard Matt Hancock has been a really good addition to the club staff.

I think it also perhaps lifts some of the pressure on Carol to always be the voice of the club and to always be the one who has to deliver the strategic vision.

Well, in the past she's done several long interviews with the club media and local press to explain the club's overall strategy. And as she co-owns it, she would be in a position to determine that strategy.

However, now there's a CEO who's a very senior board member and can potentially share some of that media work.

Nobody knows the reason Garlick left.

Worth adding, that as long as Carol owns the club she will always technically be “the voice of the club”, although naturally there will also be the voices of the staff employed in their various roles.

Has it been overlooked that, in her interview on Twitter to announce Hancock as CEO, Carol says:

"Dave (Flitcroft) is now full-time" (1:10 in)

Interesting in two ways:

1. The folk who have said for a long time that Flitcroft was part-time were correct

2. We've now decided to increase his involvement

Interesting discussion of 'educating' the fans and Patrick's involvement in this.

Didn’t Carol say given split of responsibilities into 3 key distinctive divisions that the Chief Executive role not needed given her own over arching role across the 3?

I think the folk who said that were just repeating what the club said from the very start.  Pretty sure Flickers himself said the same when the role was originally created after he’d turned the managers job down whilst also citing his (family) business interests.

Once again, it's a bit of a non-story being hyped up! The makeup of staff  who help to run Port Vale will always be decided by the owner(s), and can be fluid at any stage. It was always known that DF was part-time, as he had other business involvements. I thought it was also known that Patrick was being involved in all things Vale, from the bottom up, in the likelihood that he may take over from his parents, at some time? This seems perfectly logical to me - but i don't need to know quite so much as some fans do. A professional club doesn't run itself - somebody has to!
