January Transfers and Rumours

We might get away not bringing in a striker until the summer. Ikpeazu makes the side better when he plays, and Loft is an okay option for 20-25 minutes when he tires. We certainly need a defender or two though.

An attack of Ikpeazu, Wilson, Chislett and Devine is still quality at this level if they are all fit. We would stay up comfortably if we could play them every weekend, regardless of my thoughts on the manager.

Pompey had 8 players out when they played us. Spurs v Brighton, 20 players out injured. We are not unique.

It doesn't matter a toss what other clubs do, or what happens to them! We may not be unique - that doesn't make the problem any less real. Also, I'd guess there may be a difference between Pompey's budget (their attendance is roughly 3 x ours!)?

Gone are the days of teams having fully fit squads to choose from, it never happens anywhere, every club up and down has 6 and 7 injuries most of the time.  This makes the decision to sign Grant as the only recognised left wing back and to give Jones a 2 year contract when he has missed 60% since being at the club absoutely baffling.  You can also add in Wilson although we know why due to his great ability, the other 2 made no sense to me.

Yes, many times and I would estimate the attendance closer to 10,000, more than half the seats empty and the ground holds 25000. I have also said many times, it ain’t right to call an attendance based on ticket sales and tickets just given away, the clue is given in the name “attendance “

Attendance simply means someone has attended a game, not whether they have paid for a ticket.

Charlton bought Jonson Clarke Harris from Posh for £575k.

That’s actually a bargain. Rovers had agreed 800k odd in August. I see we are looking at unproven league 2 chancers as usual.

You sometimes get the impression from the club that they preferred being in league 2.

The striker market is absolutely nuts.

So its more like 10,000 not the 3,600?

I think season tickets should be counted because they have paid for that seat for every home game in the league but I agree with you that give outs should not be counted

Do the maths. What is closer to 10,000? 3,600 or 17,700?

And so it should. There was 13500 Stoke fans who attended on Saturday at a gate of 17,000. Had this been a league game the attendance would have been reported as around 23,000 as it would have included season ticket sales and other ticket sales even if they had not turned up. There was most likely less than 17,000 in the ground but the figure given will be a lot more accurate than the league games.

Despite Boro selling 3100, there was only 2700 that turned up, this is the figure we reported. Had it been Bradford, Stoke and a lot of other clubs we would have reported 3100 away fans attended.

Do you think? He would be available for nothing in June.

Terrible deal. Peterborough chairman pulled a blinder.

I'm not a fan of these season long loans with a recall clause in the Jan window so the player can be recalled and sent to another club from a higher league or even a club in a higher position in the same league. Think it makes a bit of mockery for competion over a 46 game season allowing bigger clubs to cherry pick talent from the the 1st half the season.

Can you imagine the uproar if Blaster signs for Portsmouth,Bolton or Derby?

Hopefully we could take advantage ourselves but either way not a good thing for football.

I see what you mean on this but it does also work the other way in the event the loan isn’t working. Thinking back to last season if that clause wasn’t in place we’d have been stuck for the whole season with Thierry Small, Mipo and Liam McCarron as an example. It is frustrating but knowing that possibility is there you would expect a club loaning the player to have a contingency in place or a list of replacements drawn up.

Depends on his wages. No doubt if he went for nothing in June clubs would then do battle to push up his wages.

I agree but sadly ultimately the club that owns the player calls the shots. I’m not a fan of clubs having to use loans at all, except for when a first teamer is injured.

What I am saying is, we can't use injuries as an excuse, it is part of the modern game.
