J Rico did well at the start of the season. Hopefully the rest has done him good. It's the lack of cover that's worrying. I'm not optimistic, but... we can hope. The defense is also a big issue. They seem to have got a bit lazey recently. Don't think it is any coincidence that our slide down the league coincides with us starting to ship goals. Roberts, fan's favourite but hasn't done much recently. No noticeable improvement since Gan gone. So can't blame that anymore. Just a mess, just hope somehow the players collective can be asred to produce something for us.....

This game has 0-0 written all over it.

Even with Torquay having a point deducted, we will not get any closer this weekend. Pesimistic i know, but we look decidedly midtable at the moment.

0-0 written all over it when Vale are six points off 2nd spot? Give over!

Offcourse I went chesterfield I've only missed four games all season. I think Roberts has been poor of late and has been dropping too deep to pick up the ball. He should be further up the pitch where he can cause more damage.

That Andy, I totally agree with and I think he should be right behind the front two. He is wasted in a defensive midfield role. I have said it in a previous thread.

The first of 6 cup finals at Vale on Saturday and a must win game if we want to make the play-offs.

The problem I thought we had on Saturday was we had no width and that meant Pope had to keep coming wide. With no midfielders pushing forward we were left with no numbers up front and so we were struggling to get anywhere.

That's why I'd push the boat out and go with the following 4-4-2 (assuming Owen is fit)

Tomlinson

Yates Owen McCombe Collins

Haldane Loft Roberts Taylor

Richards Richards

I don't like the idea of Haldane on the right but I don't think we have anyone else that can play there and get a cross in sadly. We need width badly and we need someone in midfield who can push forward.

My thoughts exactly spot on.

I would however like to see Riggy renew his partnership with Rico.

According to Gannon Roberts doesn't want an attacking midfield role. Thought he was wasted when we played at Northampton and they were down to 10. He stood on the halfway line knocking great 40 yard balls into the wings but all to little effect. He needed to be on the edge of their 18 yard box dinking little balls in and going for the return.
