John McCombe

A positive thread for once.... ===

 

When I think of John McCombe I think of a player who:

 

1) Doesn't have much pace

2) Turn's like a double decker bus

3) Isn't the tallest

4) Doesn't have a great touch

 

and

 

5) Looks a little clumsy.....

 

BUT

 

In actual fact, the more I watch, the more I see him turning into an absolute gem of a player.

 

He never misses a header! He never misses a tackle! He always seems to be in the right place at the right time! He communicates, he organises, he distributes both short and long passes and his overall play, for me, is absolutely outstanding... without actually looking like he's anything other than Mr. average.

 

Does anyone else know what I mean?

 

So far, he is my player of the year by a country mile. Long may it continue!

He is a far improved player on last year. Been immense this year. His goals and defending have probably got 10 - 15 points this season alone. Even when Exodus was in the side who was always within 10 yards of him, McCombe. Without him we wouldn't be within touching distance of the playoffs. Great season - well done.

That is an odd thing to say as John McCoombe is 6'2"/6'3" and therefore a genuine giant.....also when upfront McCombe still retains the hallmark of a striker and can finish...McCoombe has in his time at Vale executed a Cruyff

turn and even an overhead bicycle kick....the lad is what 24 and already a legend....McCoombe/Collins/Dodds/Griffith/Rob Taylor....thankyou Lee Sinnott.

One tackle on Tuesday made me comment "that was Mooresque" .He lacks pace but has improved a lot this season.Gaz Owen is his insurance policy.

A shoe in for player of the year. Mr Consistent and gives 110% week in week out despite what others have said about his pace, etc. If he is not in the League 2 Team of the Year this season, it will be a travisty.

Unlike previous years we have players who have actually stuck around and not just constant loan players. Love m rico,love collins/griff/dodds and boooooooooooooooooom. That is all.
