Great thread! Nice to see some positvity in amongst the doom and gloom :) McCombe has been fantastic for us all season at the back and has gotten in amongst the goals too. Richly deserved winner of player of the year IMHO.

I hop they are tied up because mutterings are thet some players are not going to sign new contracts with present regime. Got to agree though McCombe has been fantastic and much improved.

He is a great professional who makes the very best of what he has. In the 1-1 draw at Dartford he was the only player who performed and kept us in the game before nicking a goal. I hope to see him at the Vae for a longtime

When I think of John McCombe I think of a player who:

 

1) Doesn't have much pace

2) Turn's like a double decker bus

3) Isn't the tallest

4) Doesn't have a great touch

 

and

 

5) Looks a little clumsy.....

 

BUT

 

In actual fact, the more I watch, the more I see him turning into an absolute gem of a player.

 

He never misses a header! He never misses a tackle! He always seems to be in the right place at the right time! He communicates, he organises, he distributes both short and long passes and his overall play, for me, is absolutely outstanding... without actually looking like he's anything other than Mr. average.

 

Does anyone else know what I mean?

 

So far, he is my player of the year by a country mile. Long may it continue!

We were saying the same at least twice on tuesday. Especially when he clipped a ball over a strikers head in the 6 yard box and the walked the ball out. Still not convinced it was on purpose though. There was a classic tackle in front of the bycars not long after though.

No thank you Lee sinnott. He was rubbish, and all these players (bar collins) were awful under him. Only three are regulars now. I'd also say that only one would bring in a fee. You still talk of sinnott as though he was some kind of genius, when the truth is that he was one of the three worst managers we have ever had (all appointed by V2001.

 

But back on topic, McCombe has been fantastic these season. Mr consistent, who should be player of the season.

I was shot down in flames two years ago when I suggested he was going to be a good defender , had all the right attributes then and has grown in maturity and experience to become a cracking centre half
