Looking at that side we're making do with the back 3 so that we can look at a 3-4-3 with Gibbo and Monty as wingbacks, Manny in the middle of a midfield 2 and Miller and Kanu either side of a striker.

As a side note - I notice no Worrall today? Is he on the bench at least, or is he injured? He seems to slip away from the first team picture with every game. Out of form but still one of the better footballers in the squad.

You can argue it was only a reserve game, but even though Manny and Monty managed the full match I didn't think they played particularly well. I would also say some players didn't treat it with the right attitude and work ethic either, Miller, Quigley and Kanu in particular. Whereas I'd say Dodds, Kay and Gibbons stood out as seeming to approach it in the right way. There were some great goals in the game, especially theirs and Dodds. The formation didn't work too well in the first half as they managed to get a man over in the middle a lot of the time and Miller should never be in a position where he has to work for his full back IMO because he hasn't got it in him and we're left short. 4-4-2 in the second half got to grips with that. I didn't spot Aspin there, maybe he was up in the boxes, but Nogan was unmissable as he did his usual matchday contribution of just dishing out bollockings with no useful input. Hornby is looking an excellent deputy to Brown. One thing this game also highlights is that the players on the fringe of the first team need more of these type of matches as they are clearly a bit rusty and there just aren't enough reserve games for them to get game time.
