Mick Cullerton

I'll be interviewing Mick Cullerton for an article to be printed in the Vale Park Beano.

If anyone has any questions they'd like me to ask him, just let me know.

Mick by the way, had two spells at the Vale as a player in the 60s and 70s, worked under Stanley Matthews, Gordon Lee, Roy Sproson, Bobby Smith and Dennis Butlet, then joined Stoke City as Commercial Director before taking the same posituion at PV, then joined Radio Stoke as a summeriser.

He should have a few stories to tell.

Ask him what his favourite season was at the Vale. My recollection (and I may have dreamed this bit) is that when he, Ray Williams and Terry Bailey came to the club from Stafford Rangers in the seventies, there was a season where he scored 20, and the other 2 scored 14 each (I think?). Stafford Rangers were a strong non league team back then, and I can't imagine that three non league signings have ever had such an impact on one club in a season. They really pushed the Vale up the league, an we were an entertaining side to watch. I think it was in the Roy Sproson/Reg Berks era? Anyway, pass on my regards - he was a great servant to our club.

Cullerton, as I remember, was part of Matthews’ Ribiero-esque experiment with young untried players. He concentrated on Scottish players which included Cullerton, Tommy McLaren, Roddy Georgeson and Gordon Logan to name a few.

I would be interested to hear Mick’s views on this “experiment” and did it ever have a chance of succeeding.

He must have one or two great stories about the much loved Tommy McLaren - it would be nice to hear them

'Revenge of the Twyford Toilet' free supplement will be available tomorrow with issue 111 of the Vale Park Beano. Loads of toilet talk ,broken toilet talk that is, plus Mick Cullerton continues telling us about his time at Vale Park with Gordon Lee, Roy Sproson, Reg Berks etc plus loads of other stuff, still a quid.
