Apologies for site problems

Hi,

 

Sorry for the problems. Due to traffic I needed to urgently add more memory to cope. To do that I needed to take the site down. Taking the site down meant I couldn't tell you what was going on.

 

To add to it the forum database crashed overnight when the memory was put in.

 

It *should* be fixed now and cope with the number of users better but the odd thing may be broken and sadly I now need to drive for a few hours for a family issue.

 

I will monitor the site on my return.

One more quick update...

 

We were on a standard server - now moved to "enterprise" designed to cope with high traffic.

 

On days like Saturday the sheer numbers trying to access OVF crashed a normal server so I had to get a more robust one. It does show two things:

 

1. This all costs (more than a normal server costs) so that's the reason for the adverts and the donation page.

2. Despite what the critics say, the traffic onto OVF continues to be very high (especially on days like yesterday). It was certainly high enough to crash a normally configured server which is (I guess) a double-edged sword.

 

Hopefully we are now in a better position to stay online during busy days. Let's hope one of those busy days is us all celebrating Vale staying in the League!

NellyTheValiant has messaged me saying nothing is working for him since early evening (7PM~) last night. Using iPhone & Chrome on PC. can get on every other website with both, but no OVF. Any suggestions?

Have replied via PM. If anyone else gets reports of problems can you let me know. If in doubt always try clearing your browser history and doing a hard refresh of the OVF URL.

Hi Rob, can now get on from both phone and PC, I cannot however when using a VPN which for the most part is all of the time.

One thing I miss is the choice of using desktop or mobile site on your phone. I can use my phone to change it to desktop version (my preferred choice) but then every other website I use comes up in desktop format and I have to change it back. What happened to the button at the bottom?
