Makes you ponder on how time flies and where it all went.

But we had a number of memorable games from that era. Brighton & Bristol Rovers when we went up. Three appearances at the Twin Towers, though we lost the key game. The LDV final at Cardiff. Derby, Everton. Even some of the league games were special when we walloped good teams by 4,5 & 6 - Fulham, Ipswich I remember well.

And all played in an attractive style, Rudgie's carpet football, with two wingers and a fabulous midfield whether it be Earle & Walker or Van der Laan & Taylor. Lovely stuff.

Right up there with my greatest Vale memories. With my son and my late dad, we stood in the bycars. Hoping just for a goal against this team, never in my dreams a win. But we did and what a fantastic day for all us Vale fans. Can remember Walker hitting the ball and how it curved around Parkes, and the ball dropping off their defender ,right in front of Sproey ,my mouth and eyes wide open I knew he wouldnt miss.Wish the younger Vale fans could experience that fantastic feeling for our team . Still brings a tear to my eyes .Great days.

Oh, how I long for the Paddock to be that full again, so full that I couldn't change ends at half time, your seat was your seat. The last five minutes felt like another three games worth of time. I remember the Spurs fans going a bit mental in the Hamil after the final whistle and the police horses coming on to the track in front of them. When we went two up I couldn't help thinking that Tottenham would wake up at some point, they never really did even though they pulled one back. I've never looked forward to a Match of the day so much in my life. The late Tony Gubba commentated and I remember his "Ray Walker brilliant" and his mispronounced "Sprosson". Sweet, Sweet nostalgia.

Vale had many players in that team that could have played and did play at a higher level than Lge Div 3, the over riding lesson I took from the Vale team of that era was to get promoted from Lge Div 3 the team needed Lge 2 quality players in it. Unfortunately last season we saw the reverse of this.
