Richards did we let the wrong one leave

Pope was bought because it was easy !! We needed a forward on the cheap and Pope was hanging around the club.

 

Isn't Pope on more money than J Richards though?

 

J Richards is in his 30s and a proven average journeyman, with 14 clubs to his name (Port Vale probably being the highlight). He was diabolical for us in the second half of last season (and hounded by all on here) and it's not like he's going to have improved that much since then at this stage of his career.

 

Since Pope has joined the club we are banging them in for fun, with pretty much the same team as last season bar J Richards.

 

Marc Richards is probably our best player who has started 2 games this season. Give him a chance

Accepted but, as now, he started the season well with RICO, then went missing all season, then popped up again in the last game when the pressure was off.

Pope is causing havoc for the oppositions defence and is winning everything in the air. He may not be banging them in himself yet, but he's certainly contributing to the team finding the net.

Two starts this season - 1 goal, 1 assist.

 

Top scorer every season he's been here and 20 + goals for the last 2 seasons (also injured for best part of 2 months last season)

I'd take Justin Richards over Pope anyday and have always said that.

Pope's a tryer but his goal output is no where near good enough imo!

Marc's shown a lot of loyalty by staying with the Vale when other offers have been tabled, so we should respect him for that. He also has a decent scoring record for Vale and is unquestionably a dangerous player at this level.

 

I'd have Marc any time, and believe he will come good this season. I was bemused to see Justin go though, they had a decent partnership last season prior to Micky Adams' departure and has certainly started well for Burton.

What you have to look at is what happened last season when Marc was not available - we had no forward line, Justin could not manage without Marc. This time when we have not had Marc we have scored freely, and although I am glad for Justin that he is doing well,Tom Pope works harder and contributes more. Look again at the end of the season, too early to get excited because Justin has had a purple patch.

Pope is by far a better target man than JR and his hard work has meant plenty of reward for others in terms of goals.

 

Maybe it's a good thing that MR is not on form just yet with others scoring. Undoubtebly Rigg, Loft and Roberts won't score goals all season with injuries and suspensions then hopefully MR will hit form and sustain a promotion challenge.

JR was awful for us last season, and everyone knows this.

Justin started well for us last season too. Whereas Marc is a better all round player and consistently scores more goals over time. There is no comparison, Burton will finish 15th odd because they have worse players than Vale.

Poor move getting rid of Justin Richards. He's a real team player an is proving he can score goals at Burton. It's not rocket science that his form went down after Adams left, the whole team were poor, service was poor and Richards is very much a confidence player.

 

I hionestly think it will prove to be a mistake by Adams.

Justin got 14 last season, yet Loft has already scored more then last season, as has Roberts, I think we look a lot better going forward this year. I think that the midfield will score more this year, because of Pope's little knock downs and work ethic, and people like Rigg will also contribute more. We look less reliant on certain people , like we were on the Richard's last year.
