The top couple of Spanish teams are better...

and the 2nd wave of spanish teams take things like the europa league seriously. and why shouldn't they. in 50 years sevilla fans will remember winning that - will spurs fans be thinking 'i'm so glad we didn't bother try and winning the europa league so that we could have a slightly better chance of qualifying for another cup that we won't win'

Looking good for Spanish footie but these things tend to happen in cycles.Remember when Ajax dominated,Italian clubs used to win the European Cup at will,English clubs won how many trophies in the seventies and eighties?Bayern Munich?Barca and Real players are at their peak now and a few are even leaving.Winning the World Cup certainly helped Spanish football to attract top players but Real and Barca have always been able to do that.The lesser Spanish clubs are enjoying this at the moment but how many will be able to sustain it?

They've included European Super Cups in those totals. That rubbish, pre-season trophy between the winners of the Europa League and Champions League.

 

As someone said above the top two teams in Spain are better than ours, and their others take the Europa League seriously. Barcelona and Real Madrid get 50% of the La Liga TV revenue which obviously helps them to recruit top players. The premier league is a better league from top to bottom, but needs more quality at the top to re-invigorate the success we had at European level.
