al-assad also playing a clever game. He is pounding the rebels that the West back, while leaving ISIS alone to attack the rebels on the ground. Then when it's just Syrian Regime vs ISIS the West, by opposing ISIS, will find themselves on the side of al-assad - they're already uncomfortable being on the same side as Iran in Iraq. I do believe Americas monster (ISIS) is getting out of control.

Tell me how you would resolve the nuclear issue? With or without nuclear weapons, Iran sponsors terrorism and is committed to the destruction of Israel.

What did they mean by "the destruction of Israel" or wiping it off the map? Destroying it (literally via whatever weaponry it can get hold of including nuclear) or the removal of the Jewish state of Israel and the reinstatement of something akin to what was in place previously? Both very different but both would result in the destruction of Israel

I am sure you realise that they meant the former.

Why is there this fixation in a number of posts on this subject that religion is the problem?

I would consider myself a religious person, on account of being an ordained Christian minister, and I work in a chaplaincy made up of chaplains of all religions, including Islam. I think it's safe to say that none of them subscribe to the kind of extremist views espoused by ISIS/ISIL/Islamic State (call them what you will; on the grounds that they don't represent mainstream Islam in any way, shape or form I'd prefer we used the Arabic acronym DASH). I've spoken to Muslim chaplains who have challenged extremists in prisons and they've found that as soon as they're confronted with the truth of Islamic teaching they've changed the minds of many of these people.

It's a bit like saying the problems in Northern Ireland were down to religion; if that were the case, why were the practising Christians, both Catholic and Protestant, united in condemning the violence? The answer is it was down to two things: tribalism and turf. This is no different.

Blame should lie where it belongs.

"Muslim extremism" is a misconception. It just defines those who take Islam and the teaching of the Koran seriously. Just because many millions of people are labelled Muslims doesn't mean they follow the religion on a daily basis. Therefore, so-called "peaceful Muslims" are just those who are passive or who prefer the good life in the western world.

.

So those who follow the Muslim religion properly are extremists? The rest aren't proper Muslims. Interesting take on things when you are outside a religion. I'm sure there have been similar conversations about religion on here before.

I'd argue that whatever religion you follow, if you don't revert to violence, bigotry or the morals of a culture thousands of years ago, then you aren't following the religion to the exact word, either because your morality trumps the bits you ignore, or you like 'the good life'.

In principle, that may be correct. So in the case of Christianity, if you don't "love God and love your neighbour as yourself", it's the same. Oh and that includes, "love your enemies". Tough one that, unless you put your life in the hands of Jesus.

So you love Muslim extremists who behead innocents?

And picking one sentence in the bible doesn't really do it justice. Would you make a woman who was raped marry the rapist?

Those who do the worst need Christian love and forgiveness the most..look at the victims' relatives in Charleston..that assumes you understand what love means in this context?

I suspect the answer will be no as that's not what the Bible says/means..more a case of the rapist must take care of the woman for the rest of his/her life as a penalty for his crime.

Jesus forgave those responsible for his own crucifixion.

Also I think the text does not refer to rape as such but unlawful sex..as in outside of marriage. So if you do it and you aint wed you'd better get married sharpish

There are numerous misogynistic verses in the bible if you want me to quote them.
