England vs Lithuania

He is, but at 33 shouldn't we be giving someone who will have a future with England a go? It's only Lithuania and was a great chance to give some of our younger lads a go. Carrick will be 36/37 by the next World Cup so IMO there's no point picking him even if he's our best option.

To be honest though I'd rather worry about France '16 first where he will only be 34.

Who though? As Howjy says the two I mentioned aren't fit to lace his boots, then there is...

I think you could be right v593 against the likes of Lithuania but if Woy likes to play a certain way he still needs his best players in their best position. At the moment I don't think there is anyone who is better than MC at what he does. Its a specialist position.Look what happened when Slippy was given that job.Qualification is the most important thing at the moment then we can bring others through when it's been achieved.;)

I went the game last night. If you've never been to the new Wembley, you need to go, as its just unbelievable..

I thought the front 3 of Welbeck, Rooney and Sterling were excellent tbh..Yes, I know its only Lithuania, but cmon, you still got beat what's in front of you. Rooney should of had a hat trick, and they couldn't cope with Welbeck..When Welbeck went down, it looked a blatant peno, but someone mentioned he dived, as I've not seen it on tv yet, so fair doos if the ref got it right. I too thought Sterling played very well. That front 3 of Welbeck, Sterling and Rooney I would play all the time. Glad I saw Kane get his first England goal too. Give him 2 years and he'll be at 1 of the big 4, though I doubt he'll go Arsenal..

Excellent stadium, Excellent night, Excellent win..

Couldn't agree more! Lithuania are very average but they're no San Marino by any means and yet 7-0 wouldn't have flattered us. What I really like is the movement and pace of our attacking players - No side will want to play against them. Welbeck, Sterling and Rooney started last night and all three put in good shifts. But we could also play a totally different three in Walcott, Kane and Sturridge and the threat going forward wouldn't be any less. Exciting times without getting carried away.

Hart (27)

Clyne (23)

Stones (20)

Jones (23)

Gibbs (25)

Wilshere (23)

Henderson (24)

Sterling (20)

Welbeck (24)

Sturridge (25)

Kane (21)

Forster (27)

Chambers (20)

Shaw (19)

Walker (24)

Barkley (21)

Lallana (26)

Chamberlain (21)

Not one player over 30 or even close to it above. Obviously the likes of Rooney and probably Baines are likely to be in the side for a couple of more years at least, but for me we have a very talented young squad and Hodgson certainly has a good opportunity to build something over the coming few years.

Some right negative wands on here. If you're not passionate about your country then fine, **** off. Don't bother posting telling everyone that you have no interest.

When did Rob sell you OVF and make you Lord and master? :D

You are startled when there is no thread, start one and then are amazed some people are more realistic and even apathetic about England after a massive failure less than a year ago in a major tournament, easy victories in qualifying and of course the utter embarrassment of English players in Europe this season.

If you don't want debate and you don't want people to comment about their views don't bother starting threads ;)

But people spout the same old nonsense on every thread that has to do with England. If they don't want to support the country they were born in, fine, but why even bother commenting? Especially if you say the same thing over and over.

And how were we embarrassed in the World Cup? We don't have any given right to beat teams like Italy and Uruguay. We were edged out against the Italians and against the latter we lost because a chance fell to arguably the 3rd best player in the world who was also playing with a point to prove. Hodgson got the selections wrong but if everybody was to name their best 11 in their eyes here and now I would imagine there would be various differences in both player selection and formations.
