I miss the mechanic horse ride that used to be on the ground floor of Lewis’s where Santa used to be when I was a kid in the 70’s. White horse with leather and studded stirrups I seem to remember. When I was allowed on as a treat if I didn’t get lost while we were shopping and it was the best thing ever!

off licence in hartshill where brayfords sandwich shop is now. Used to serve us beer and fags from about 14 up. Obviously would be frowned upon now but (apart from the smell) he was a nice bloke...until he got murdered.

that gents outfitters where the entrance to the roebuck centre is now in 'castle, was it blacks? and the smithfield pub, terry bloods in hanley and nam fangs chinese and timpsons with the metronome in the window, cee and cee in hill street stoke, all gone like hundreds of others all in the name of progress.

It was next door to Brayfords.

 

Used to be able to pick up 20 Marlboro Lights (King Size) and 24 cans of Skol for £12.

 

I loved being a student!

 

Oh, and yes, Frank did stink.
