So was it a bore draw or were Vale lucky/unlucky. What's your take on the first game of this new season?

McGivern was out best player but we desperately need Moore and another striker.

I think we defended well but midfield just didn't work hard enough. It's either O'conner or Lines to play along side Brown.

In my opinion he had a good game. Marshall got man of the match yet did nothing second half.

So no I'm not on a wind up... McGivern and Johnson stood out for me.

Some positives some negatives. Positives - Marshall and McGiven

Negative - Feddy Vesali. Had he of had number 2 Yates on his back lets be honest he would be getting lynched on here. That was the worst performance I have seen from a right back in many years at vale

I think we need to try 4-5-1 next game. Today showed what we already knew tbh and that is willow and Pope cannot play together. I would play popey on his own against Hartlepool and put Brown in alongside Line and O'Connor. Marshall looks a quality signing and I don't think Dodds can play on the wing he just drifts inside too much, which is where their goal came from I think down his right hand side.

Before kick off i was worried with the selection and it turns out i was right to be worried. 442 is not the answer, Lines and Oconnor as the middle two didnt work at all, we need Brown or Jennings to play along side them so we can actually get on the ball instead of having no midfield. It really was a similar performance to last season, hoof it up and leave the midfield and then have no midfielders helping the back 4. Best two players for me were Mcgivern and Duffy, Marshall was excellent first half but non existent second half.

 

Johnson 7: Played well, commanded his area well, good start.

Veseli 7: Obviously a capable player that wants to attack when he can, looks a good player for the future.

Duffy 8: Very solid IMO.

Mcgivern 8: I was worried before the game due to past reviews, I thought he was excellent, read the game well and was our MOTM.

Dickinson 8:Purely for effort and passion, did nothing wrong but that extra effort made him stand out.

Dodds 6: Not as bad as some will make out, but I dont think he should be in our starting 11.

Oconnor 6: Looked great at set pieces but that really was it, didnt do much at all.

Lines 5: Our worst player today, cant remember him doing one decent thing.

Marshall 7: Great first half, will get a load of assists this season, nothing second half.

Williamson 7: Thought he did OK, but we do need another striker.

Pope 6: Ive seen Popey have many better games, nice to start with a goal though.

 

Overall for me the formation was completely wrong and walsall certainly deserved a point, that sawyers controlled the game due to some decent play from them but some poor play from us as well.

I disagree, looked a decent player IMO, in his first game at this level and in a vale shirt.

Fully agree with this tbh, I think 4-5-1 could be the answer for the vale.

Why can we never play good football? We sign all these midfielders and expect better ball retention but it was just the same, midfield is bypassed by long balls. Second half was abysmal. They were all over us sand taught us how to pass the ball

Frustrating start but the potential is there if we can click.

Most disappointing for me was that we have a very talented ball playing midfield but bypassed them with aimless lumps forward.

If we can get Moore back playing to add some movement and pace + another forward then we have the makings of decent side.

It was a fair result. Marshall was good as was McGiven. Thought Vaseli looked poor whilst Lines was totally ineffective. Pope didn't look fit but I guess we ain't got much if a plan B.

Could have been worse though a point is better than none.
