Clarke Carlisle - TV pundit & World Cup expert

It all goes to show that there is nothing like live football, particularly when you can hear the moans and groans of the Railway Stand or the informed comments of the Lorne Street to say nothing of the barracking of the Bycars. Your choice and much better than anything on BBC or ITV.

As if ITV's football coverage could get any worse, we now get prize pillock Clarke Carlisle offering his opinions on World standard players.

It's quite unbelievable he's considered to be in any way qualified or entitled to, as he achieved very little in football as a player.

Radio 5 meanwhile have got the equally irritating "character" Robbie Savage offering his wisdom. I can't listen to the idiot, and I suspect I'm not the only one.

This is definitely a World Cup best watched in silence!

Seriously the UK is world class coverage compared to SBS in Australia.

John Aloisi (ex Pompey & Cov Premier League player) and Archie Thomson (Melbourne hero) were analysing the games the other night, used the weakest cliches ever and then Archie proceeded to forget the legend that is Aloisi's name when he was sat right alongside him!!! TV gold!!!

They also kept pronouncing the team they lost to as Chilay!

In the highlights show they also have this incredibly stupid idea of showing all the goals of the game they are about to show the full highlights of as soon as they return from one of their million breaks per show and then in the actual highlights that follow only show the goal with no replays from different angles.

The grass isn't always greener and both of them must be better than Lawro and Childs!

They are even more informed than some of the numpties on here! ;)

I don't think the level a pundit played at has any bearing on their ability to analyse. I just don't like Carlisle, he comes across as arrogant and self righteous. Having met him, the reality isn't much better

I refereed him a few times a couple of seasons ago when he was at PNE and he was funny and great for banter. I think because he's so far from the sterotypical idea of a normal dim footballer he can come accross as superior but I'm not certain he's doing it intentionally.

Neville sent me to sleep last night, sounded like he was reading the shipping forecast. Not much relationship between playing ability and punditry. As a matter of interest, I quite like Adrian Chiles, brings a fan's eye view.

Phil Neville was woeful last night,Danny Murphy would have been my choice.

I know..it was a poor attempt at a joke

Not a bad line up for a footie team

Dixon

Vieira

Hoddle

Poyet

Strachen

Wright

Just need a goalie, a couple of defenders and a striker to play with Wrightee

The BBC team with Shearer and Henry up front and Savage and Seedorf in the middle and Ferdinand at the back looks better. Phil Neville can be the water boy..although.... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/10901542/World-Cup-2014-Boring-Phil-Neville-could-be-dropped-from-BBCs-commentary-team.html

I don't think the SBS coverage is as bad as you make it, fair enough the Pre and Post match analysis is terrible, but at least they using decent commentators like Martin Tyler and John Helm. I also like the fact they replay the matches during the day as I am unable to watch the live matches due to work.

The live game coverage of the 90 minutes football and the replays are great, I watched Germany this afternoon for instance.

I did however specifically reference the summarisers and the highlights shows though which are bizarre in the extreme :)
