Anybody know why you cant listen to football commentry on local radio on the various radio apps? Can understand why its not available abroad, but in the UK?

It really is pathetic and frustrating, just like having to swap channels to watch regional BBC programmes on a HD TV.

It's a Football League thing. If you're non-league then you can do what you like.

Correct. All the Football League clubs are represented by FLi - Football League Interactive - and they have decided that clubs should charge for any commentary over the Internet. Hence, any Football League commentary is only available to listen to for free if you're in the reception area for the local radio.

 

If like me, you're an exile and cannot make any midweek games (I don't get home to Aylesbury till 7pm) then paying for Valiant Player is the only way to listen in.

 

I stress this is not an individual decision by Vale but a group one by the Football League. Incidentally, the same FLi also make decisions on who to use for the official club websites - currently Sapient Nitro - so again the layout and design of the official Vale website is largely out of Vale's hands.

 

I agree that is is frustrating that it is not more widely available - I would argue that the club would gain more from allowing free access online and the free publicity/interest they gain than the small amount they get from subscription from the Valiant Player - but it's out of their hands, it's a FLi decision.

 

However, the costs of Valiant Player are reasonably cheap and it is increasingly reliable (after a frustrating period last season when the Vale commentary stream seemed to be more elusive than Keith Ryder)...
