The Referee

Always think a comment on the ref is more valid when you have won and therefore not bitter at losing. He was a poor ref, and seemed to give everything against us and nothing for. I know Popey likes a moan but our forwards got battered and were given nothing for constant pushes and shoves, peno excluded. But in general our defenders couldn't go near their strikers without the ref blowing up and giving something in Oldhams favour,

Rant over, but I refer you back to my opening sentence.

The referees association is a closed shop which measures its own performance and allocates membership by its own rules.

It is 99% White English though there must be the odd Welsh person. The number of Coloured and Asians is

The time has come to let EU refs in under the freedom of employment. - we cant get any outside the EU because the refs association would say that they dont have enough appearances for their countries or whatever they would need for Immigration clearance but as an earlier poster said - get Polish ones in. They even speak better English than most refs - especially scouse.

So you are calling for equal opportunities at the same time as calling women wenches and black people coloured?? How pc of you

I thought the ref was ok yesterday until jenos dive. After that he was completely against us and it should be looked at but we know it won't

Wonder what the odds were at the bookies yesterday on a 'no Oldham player booked in the match' bet ? ........mmmmmmmm , just a thought cus how it didn't happen is a complete mystery !

Awful referee , so inconsistent , surely to give a penalty for a foul tackle is at least a yellow card when compared with the booking Griff got at the end of the first half .

Can't believe he didn't book Popey for dissent in the first half, he went absolutely mental with him. Just highlights his inconsistency. Awful ref.

I witnessed possibly the poorest officiating in my life this weekend and so too did Pope, it wasn't at Vale Park though.

Ask Popey about the referee who took charge of Sneyd vrs Elmo's in Leek this morning. That chap was quite bewildering, two mass confrontations, a knee high challenge and at two least obvious dismissals but no dismissals. The high / low light was when this chap called Tom and the other manager to the centre circle from the touch line for a chat mid way through the second half, as I say really quite bewildering.

There is good and bad in all walks of life, take a look around the office or workplace you are in tomorrow.

You started so well and actually weren't to far from the truth then let yourself down very badly with comments about women and ethnic minorities :(

Not necessarily, it was a mis timed trip on Tom who wasn't bearing down on goal so a caution for that would have been unfortunate.

The number 30s persistent fouling and their guy diving in the box however...

You say unfortunate , I'd say definate . If that 'trip' had been made by a Vale player outside of the box he'd have given a yellow . He was awful you cannot deny that , as for your 'technically correct' referees union back up of his decision not book yesterday , explain why they don't stick to these rule book decisions every week instead of the constant inconsistency .

I doubt very much it would, all the Vale cautions and the penalty decisions were correct for me, as I stated previously I would have thought their player that dived in the area and the number 30 should also have been cautioned.

I don't understand what the middle part of your post means to be honest, the 'technically correct' referees union stuff.

There is constant incosistency in all walks of life, look at some of our players over the last 2-5 years and maybe even beyond...

REP, understand where you are coming from and the one from Rafeal just is scandalous to not be red.

For me Pope's next touch in the pen incident, whether it be a shot or pass, was going to be a threatening attacking movement. IMHO the foul should therefore have drawn a yellow.

It's not a red because there is too much doubt as to what would have happened next.

In the event the ref didn't even talk to the lad. Similarly one of their lads went through, I think Loft, in the second half and he played a good advantage that we made nothing of. I fully expected that when play stopped he would go back to to book the lad. Not even talked to.

On two occasions they had players go down in relatively dramatic fashion in the box. Neither was spoken to. For me JMW lost his footing, on a greasy pitch, having been running and turning at speed. The ref couldn't book him quick enough.

I don't for a second think we get treated any differently from other sides. I don't however accept that yesterday's ref handled the game competently or that he was up to the standard required.

The key is to be consistent. If you are going to dish out cards do it even handedly. If you are going to ref with common sense and allow a bit to go then again do it evenly.

The ref yesterday seemed to have one approach for one side and another for the other. The assessor report could be interesting.
