The A303 in Somerset before parts of it was made a dual carriageway was lethal. In places easily wide enouigh for four cars but only two lanes so sooo many were constantly overtaking and head ons were common

It was prerry scary

I have found this on the road from Kidsgrove to Congleton. Is it still the a34?

Last Thursday evening, I found it extremely scary, people trying to overtake single carriage with cars coming in the other direction

M3 to the M25. Junction 3 Bagshot.

There isn't anything special about the place or the road but as you get towards the M25 the three lanes are split: M25 Heathrow / M25 Heathrow or Gatwick / M3 only. Lane 1 is divided off by chevrons early on.

Now what happens is that drivers wait until the last possible moment to start changing lanes. Often you get drivers going from lane 3 to lane 1 in one go - or at least trying too.

You can almost guarrantee there's an accident there 2-3 times a week, it will be M3 j3 Bagshot. The road design is at fault as it encourages lane flipping far too much. It would be better if the lane were M25 Heathrow ONLY, M25 GATWICK ONLY and M3 ONLY. With each lane chevroned off and divided in good time before the junction.

Bizarrely there is a 50mph enforced average speed camera going the other way on the M3, yet where it might actually do some use its 70mph.

I agree. A proper nutty road. Just have to keep your nut down.

I know it's only the DM but quite a decent article in today's rag about killer highways in the UK.Be careful around Macc.on the A527.

Some interesting clips of motorists as well.

Views and opinions please.

Thanks for posting this. Below the article, in the Comments section, it seems to me that someone signing in as chivers49 hits the nail on the head.. In every fatal accident, on whatever road, someone has to do something very wrong, and is very much to blame.

I did a naughty boy driving speed awareness course , twice in fact .

Eventually it bought home to me that speeding is futile !!

It was proved to me that actually speeding apart prom bring dangerous, achieves nothing !!

The time time you save as a result if speeding is minimal, but a lot of us do it

Why ??

My other half has been driving since she was 17, and has never had a speeding conviction in her life, & admittedly was a copper for 30 years.

But she says that she has never had to or felt the need to speed cus it serves no purpose.

Ok she did once stuff her police car they a central reservation on a we road on a " shout" and spent the night in hospital as a result.

Speeding is a major cause of most road accidents .
