One last point on Crewe...

I'm sure they don't mind their players agents working their ******** off to secure a move away from the club for big money. Hypocritical scummers they are down the road.

But it is Crewe that are developing their players to be worth the big money, whether it is the players or the buying club who pays the commission does not affect Crewe. I don't see any point in Crewe paying commission on young players who want to join them, it is a different matter if you are trying to attract older players who may have a few clubs to choose from.

Didn't we used to have a "no payments to agents" rule?

Is there any other business where the agent is paid other than by taking a percentage from his client, i.e. the player?

I work in IT and most appointments are made through a recruitment agent where the company pays them a certain % of the individuals salary.

fair do's, but aren't Crewe just one big agency? They don't develop players to improve the team, just to make money.

Dario is a multi-millionaire off the back of the fact that he had it written into his contract that he received 10 percent of any transfer fee. Crewe have effectively paid Dario as the agent everytime they've SOLD a player in the past 20 years. Now that to me is even worse (from a supporters point of view) than paying someone a couple of grand for brokering a player coming in.

Crewe exist as a football club, mainly funded by developing players through a high level academy. Gradi is I believe a large shareholder and director, he received performance related bonuses based on transfer fees. He produced the players, not like an agent who takes a salesmen`s cut. Without Gradi, Crewe could well be in the Conference.

In that example the company is the agent's client, asking the agent to find a member of staff.

In the football case the player is the client, asking the agent to work on his behalf. Hopefully the Vale are identifying players they are interested in, not asking agents "what have you got?"
