  1. Why are we all concentrating on Mansfield, there is every chance we can still catch Exeter and FG(if they have a blip),lets aim high and let others worry about us 🙂

  2. Just bought corporate tickets at Hartlepool (we'd booked a hotel three months ago and I missed out when the normal ones were released). Only £40 including a meal and a drink. Think they have some left too.

  3. Crozzer, as he seems to be known, is telling the players to enjoy themselves. As assistant to Nigel Adkins, he's been here before, so knows the territory. I think it applies to us fans too. I realised on Saturday just how much I enjoyed the whole experience, and it's been such a long time since I did. I loved it, I was totally absorbed in the game. I intend to keep doing the same for the rest of the season, no matter what...

  4. One of the real big pluses has been the form of Proctor and Wilson since they returned from injury, arguably both have been better on return especially Wilson. First ca 30 mins yesterday both were nigh on unplayable although Wilson did fade a tad later on. When they went out injured I was concerned they'd struggle to get back to peak fitness and effectiveness but both have been superb. If both stay in this rich vein of form then a top 3 finish is highly likely.

  6. I don’t subscribe to the narrative Mansfield are favourites with a more favourable run in. As it stands we have the points in the bag with a superior goal difference - we are the favourites. The pressure is on Mansfield to win EVERY game until the end of the season. We don’t need to. At this stage of the season every game is really tough to win. The only game a potential gimmie is Crawley home match. Mansfield still have to have 2 weeks of 2 games a week which may also take its toll.

  7. Completely agree. Lots of other clubs are going to be carrying injured players, have suspensions and have struggles fitting "square pegs in round holes". We just need to get points. What makes me enthusiastic is we have a strong bench for the run-in with the likes of Harratt, Edmondson and Amoo all potential game changers if things are not going our way. You could add Jake Taylor to that list when he gets fitter too.

  8. Don't think its as clear cut as, who gets the best results between us and Mansfield. Exeter and FGR aren't over the line yet. I think they will both wobble, FGR already are, and the pressure is on the Grecians too after so many near misses. Easter fixtures are massive, we will either be talking playoffs, or taking about winning the league. Remember, nobody has got easy fixtures, they don't exist, that's why your Acca doesn't come in on Saturdays. It's all about digging out results no matter how scruffy it looks. We look quite good at that lately.

  9. Lol. Driving that far, there's no way I'm missing the game. Definitely getting a Greggs sausage roll and a bovril.

  12. If the majority of Vale fans turn up at their traditional 2.55pm arrival time, we could be on for a kick-off of erm... around 4pm...

  13. Obviously, this government knocks all others in to a cocked hat, corruption-wise. But I do think it's a mistake to look at past or future governments through rose-coloured lenses. Past or future, they'll al be taking lucrative second jobs and accepting money from vested interests. Talking of which, have we covered Patel accepting £100,000 from an oil trader yet? On the fiddle while the planet burns.

  15. Both have been really impressive but, in particular, I think Proctor's been immense - he surely has to be in the list for player of the month. He's given us hold-up play, link-up play (some passes have been sublime) and goals in recent weeks. Both are better than this division in my opinion and if we can keep them fit and in form for a few more weeks, it will be a huge advantage for us.

  16. I think we need to be quick out of the blocks like we were on Saturday. Two goalline clearances otherwise we could have been 2 up early in the game. It's easy to speculate and criticise on formations and our defending but it's now a 6 game season and we are 3rd with the 2nd best goal difference. All teams are in the same boat... performances don't really matter,it's all about picking up as many points as we can. All positives for me,let's hope the squad have a good rest, ready to do their best on Friday. One game at a time

  17. We will need to win against Newport to seal automatic promotion. It’s 1-1 in the 89th and yes we get a penalty, we never do things by 1/2 at the Vale do we. The fans, the owners, the manager, the staff and the players deserve to seal promotion at Vale Park for the season we’ve had. Last 5 games play your hearts out lads and get us over the line you’ve done us, the gaffer, the owners, the club and yourself proud this season whatever happens. VTID

  18. I think 2nd because even when we were playing truly dreadfully post Christmas we were still competing and getting points. The sort of football we are playing now is so many gears ahead, we will still get wins if it drops off a little. I don’t think we will struggle to maintain our standard now.

  19. Wherever we finish the players, staff and fans have done the club proud this season. The injuries we’ve had (no strikers for weeks), the absence of the manager in tragic circumstances, no penalty for 12 months. I know every side has their hard luck moments over a season but we’ve had some serious issues to deal with and yet still find ourselves in with a shout. No matter what happens from here on this year has been a triumph. Let’s hope it is crowned with a promotion.

  20. I love that last sentence and like you, wish for a a nerve-free relatively easy win. However, having supported PV for almost 70 years (that's why I have no hair!) I suspect you, me and all PV followers are going to have our usual rollercoaster ride for these last 5 matches. Fasten your seat belts, it may be nerve-wracking but it ain't gonna be boring!

  21. I think unless Crewe radically change the way they do things they’ll be more likely struggle like say Rochdale this season than bounce back first time of asking. I just don’t know how sustainable it is for them any more to solely rely on that academy and not have a proper recruitment structure in place. There’s only a limit to what they’ll achieve and looking at Artells demeanour he just seems to have been broken by it, I’m not sure he can be the one to manage them next season.

  22. After yesterday I've no nails left . Primed for another 90 minutes of torture plus the mandatory double figures of injury time . We've just got to do the boring cliché and take each game as it comes. Difficult fixture but so was Salford. Any chance of a comfortable 2-0 routine win, my nerves are shot.

  24. Think I've just about calmed down now, that was not a fun finish to the game! 🥴 Preface this with saying it's not a criticism given how awesomehe'sbeen this last couple of months, (more likely just a first slight sign of jitters given the position we're in), but I actually think yesterday may have seen a first small mis-step from AC. If he was planning to take off Wilson around the hour, why not do that for Hussey and move Edmondson up, rather than bringing Harratt on in between? Thought we wasted a sub there that we really needed in that last 10 minutes, especially as Edmondson must have had his tail up after that tremendous assist. Also, part of the reason we lost the midfield last 20 was that we dropped too deep, something we used to do a lot when in the lead, but not so often recently. That's possibly because Oldham were quite nippy up top and pushed us back, but meant there was too big a gap between back 6 (as it turned into) and front 2 for Charsley and Garrity to patrol, despite their best efforts. Credit to Oldham and their fans, really hope they stay up, definitely think they deserve to based on our two games this season, but given the additional quality we showed first half we probably made that harder for ourselves than it needed to be. Great that we're winning scrappily though, testament to the fortitude we have in this squad. My Leicester fan mate who came along for the game said it was a cracking game for the (almost) neutral, thought we were the better side overall, and it was right result given first half quality. Was impressed with Wilson's touch, Proctor's general play, the second goal and in particular Edmondson's assist. We both reckon Vale are going up, although I might find the process of getting there more stressful than him! UTBV!

  25. Vale played some sublime attacking stuff up to it being 3-2, and were exposed to the long ball as a consequence, and some of our defending was atrocious. From then on we tried to throw a blanket over the game, sitting deeper. It succeeded. Just. First goal was brilliant play from both Connor Hall, and Proctor, who was super alert, and super cool. Edmundson's cross was sublime for the second. Walker's goal was down to the coaching staff. In some ways a brilliant performance, and in others, awful. I guess that's what happens when you push and take risks... Super entertainment. I think Vale are playing at the limits. Crosby is pushing them hard and getting them to play at their peak. Mistakes will happen. It's brilliant, quite high risk management.

  26. Think Oldham will stay up personally I think out of all the Home games I've being they have especially second half been one of the better sides I've seen up Vale they troubled us a lot . When season started Dan jones was used as a right sided player couldn't understand why he didn't get the nod come on . I think Edmondson contribution was OK think the work for the second goal was excellent in general a great ball in . Here's me marks . Stone 6 deary me first half coming out his area catching the ball the wrong side of the line then looking very uncomfortable for there two goals, thought second half he did well though caught everything and making a save, although I thought his kicking was poor throughout Smith 5 All at sea for there 2 goals both coming in area of pitch where he defends maybe it was nerves no idea why he was so poor first half second half improved but still let his man get wrong side of him luckily he headed wide ,not going be too hard on him as his performances are generally a 7 minimum . Martin 6 won some big headers second half kept the Vale organised had a headed attempt over going other way think he generally did OK. Hall 5 his hardest game yet struggled to get us going the other way there Kellor whatever his name is was causing him problems . Walker 7.5 passes it beautifully his goal was deserved he as smashed a glorious effort just wide v Salford and I felt he was going score at some point in the run in well the winning goal in a game where we were say a 5 out of 10 last 50 mins well its priceless that well done great moment we had a mental in the railway stand . Garrity 5 I thought he was having a OK game till he was booked ,just shows important he is he showed discipline after the booking though to remain on the pitch sending off you got be kidding BG always plays to win the ball generally he wins it fair and square like yesterday . Benning 7.3 very impressed again with benning he was positive he was most excellent in his own position and then at go play in a role unfamiliar to him but I didn't see any mistakes from him so fair play well played Worrall 6 think Worrall was doing well till got injured (hip I believe )sad see him go off as he was playing OK had a shot flashing wide . Wilson 7.0 first shot of game parried by keeper his movement superb allowing Proctor the chance get shots away ,involved in winning goal then replaced . Did well . Proctor 7.7 two beautifully taken goals if Port Vale are to be automatically promoted it is essential that Jamie plays all 90 of last 5 the work he does just get a tiny bit of space to me does not go unnoticed ,I knew from the first time I saw him v Sunderland in league cup his unselfish play and great feet were going be a good fit for Vale . He's brilliant . Charsley 6 started game like a steam train playing really well as game went on hardly noticed him so credit to Oldham shutting down both Charsley and Garrity and having too much of the ball for my liking . Subs Edmondson 7 I'm giving him that as that ball in for 2nd goal deserves it sacrificed for the team and playing in a position what I'd alien to him I guess . Hussey 5 looked like he hadn't played for weeks to be fair a slightly iffy challenge in stoppage time but I'd have being livid if a penalty was given. Crowd got behind the team after the 3rd goal the atmosphere was OK but I expect it be taken up ten notches v Bristol Rovers with there huge away following coming. We won and we were at best average . To me that tells me that we are capable of finishing in the automatic positions but be warned we cannot give poor goals away like that v Exeter Newport and Bristol Rovers well any of the remaining five games. In a way its good as they can put it right this week in training as at Salford we weren't defending like that the only thing I can think is that nerves are jangling a bit and that's understandable . 27. It's a pretty good listen - I signed up for the month just for his episode and it was worth it. He can't speak highly enough of the club and says he's enjoying his football more than ever, which is showing on the pitch. I'd recommend it.

  39. Shows the difference in squad strength. We lose our manager, half our best team through injuries and somehow manage to galvanise the team to produce an amazing, potential promotion winning run. Swindles lose Mckirdy and the wheels fall off. No other team could have coped with the adversity that we have had and still be anywhere near, let alone find themselves in the top 3. Just highlights the fantastic efforts of all concerned. Let's keep the faith, go mental for the boys, but no criticism if we don't quite make it. - But we're gonna do it, aren't we? UTV

  40. I'm going to say third and we'll seal it at home to Newport after Salford beat Mansfield earlier on that day.

  41. Five games to go, for me I call it: - Hartlepool, win - Bristol, win or draw - Walsall, win - Newport, win - Exeter, draw I don't see anyone else beating us this season and no one to be afraid of. Think we'll go up 3rd automatically KTF and UTV

  42. Not sure about Mansfield having an easier run in: Sutton (H) - Sutton need points for playoff push Carlisle (A) - Carlisle have beaten Northampton and Bristol Rovers in recent weeks, got a point against Tranmere and nearly got one against Exeter Crawley (H) - looks the easiest of their fixtures Stevenage (H) - we saw yesterday how a side fighting for their lives can make a game very tough Salford (A) - Salford likely to need points for playoffs Foresr Green (H) - possible that FGR might need something for the title. Even if they don’t they’ve been a tough side to beat all season so it would be hoped they won’t just down tools If they win 5 or all 6 you would have to take your hat off to them. Equally the only thing the lads can control is our own results - as we did yesterday we just need to find the way to win our own games.

  43. Normally a point away from home is a good result, but we really need 3 from this to give us some breathing space for the tough Bristol and Exeter games, and Newport won’t be easy either.

  47. Guys - just posted on the Ale and Vale podcast section. Anyone think it would be a good idea to reach out to Rovers - we start the singing Daryl Clarks Black and White Army, they sing back Daryl Clarks Blue and White Army and we keep that going as long as possible. I know they are rivals but it would be a nice tribute to the Gaffer - he was idolised by GasHeads and we could put rivalry aside for a while in his name. Thoughts
