Wildes on Radio Stoke ......

Dont know if this is mentiond elsewhwere Paul Wildes said on the radio this morning that he hoped to keep Adams for 5-10 years to allow for stability within the club, referring to Ferguson at United and to give him the platform to build for the future.

He went on to say that they could bring in younger players and nurture them for 2-3 years until they are ready for the 1st team.

It has been mentioned elsewhere that he was doing a interview but nothing as specific as these quotes. Very promising if true but the acid test will come when we are struggling and the fanbase pressure mounts on the manager as with all clubs.

Maybe the last point highlights why it appears we are looking at Harry Pell.

The one worry I have is that Adams does not seem to have a liking to young players. He has his favourites but the likes of Morsey would not have seen the first team as often, without dare I say it, Gannon.

We as a club have had a decent youth team in recent years but very few have gone on to be regulars in the first team.

I would expect the owners to set the club strategy, and agree implementation with MA. There always has to be a mix, players from our own and other academies, surplus players from other clubs, purchases or players from lower clubs. All need development and coaching, it looks as if that is working with Pope and Williamson to name a couple. But we will always need to bring in players direct to the first team, the mark of a good club is the fewer the better.

It seems that Wildes is talking about the idea of a development squad which on top of the academy is a great idea...at this rate the club will need a Director of Football which would be the perfect job for John Rudge.

There are some very good young players out there who are seemingly available and would represent good business.....imagine

Kingsley James as understudy to Duffy at right back and Collins back at left back fighting it out with Skarz for the shirt but also at centre back to sign both Pearce and Flint with Davis as back up and perhaps Yado Mambo to complete the quartet.

Then in midfield there could be Birchall and Burge but also Morsy and Harry Pall.....then in the attacking midfield role Dodds could have competition from O'Shea and on the wings MJW and Vincent would have cover from the development squad with say Lloyd and Bell-Baggie who is only a year older....upfront the Pope and Dickinson with Williamson as supersub.

Now if Carlsberg ever did club turn arounds something like the above squad would be it and would see the club back as a top half league 1 outfit which is where the club was before being hijacked by a nightmare called V2001....think a nominal part-time Director of Football post for John Rudge would certainly help shift season tickets.
