A little surprised if that's true with Paton although him not being involved at Mansfield was telling unless there is better coming in? I don't rate Brown, Faal and in the absence of anything else you'd have thought he was a option to partner Cole.

It's a shame it just hasn't quiet clicked for him at Vale I actually thought he'd worked hard to get himself in a position to play this season. Another who has been shafted by Moore to some degree. Never got a run of starts and dropped for others after scoring(albeit in the trophy games). Genuinely think there's a player in there somewhere at least at league two level.

Perhaps Brady just doesn't like his character or style, that can happen in football I guess.

I’m not surprised if he’s told Mitch to find a new club to be honest. On a one year deal with Gabriel now back and also Kyle John on a long term contract, if moving from wingbacks to a back four then 3 in each fullback position then becomes overkill as much as I like Mitch.

Ruari I can think of others I’d be moving on before him namely the two loanees up top though I’m starting to think there isn’t actually a recall window on them two.

Probably can’t send Brown back, he likes Faal so that leaves 5 strikers for 2 spots. Ruari is definitely more a supporting striker and it seems Brady will be happy to have Shipley on the set pieces.

Mitch is the surprise there though I suppose.

I’m sure either player can find other clubs.

Hopefully a lot of rollocks on both counts, but especially Mitch.

I agree with you and half of them have written him off before he's even kicked a ball for us .... just because he played at Cheltenham and can't get into the Luton team,I myself shall wait to see how he gets on with us,... UTV VTID 👍 😎

And the other half think they are experts on his career like they have been personally scouting themselves for the past 2 years and think he is one hell of a signing without actually knowing nothing about him

No, they are just looking at their FM or EA attributes and thinking we have a baller. We can only really judge when we see him.

Believing Unofficial Vale, who have got nothing right for a number of years, is like believing that Donald Trump isn’t racist

Mitch Clark isn’t all that.

He bombs up & down that touch line but his final ball is basically non-existent, he doesn’t chip in with 2 or 3 goals per season which he should do at least from a wing back position, he can not defend and he’s always injured.

We have Gabriel or John that can play at right back in Brady’s new formation

Mitch's greatest attribute for me was that he could play either side of the defence, but I think its been a couple years since he did play on the left. His crossing and final ball from the RWB were very wasteful early in the season and a lot of the play was attempted to come down that side. It just didn't really work. His defensive game was always solid though, good tracking back.

John is better defensively still though, and while doesn't offer much offensively has that versatility to play anywhere across the back line so is a useful bench option. So in short no longer need Mitch.

Gabriel is supposedly the better player than either going forward if he can stay off the treatment table.

I agree with this. He's another example of a player that Vale fans seem to value over everything. Basically he tries hard and runs about a lot. His actual contribution with the ball is awful. He never scores, when he shoots it's usually wild and his crossing is awful.

It amazes me that some of our fans go in on Byers (who is far and away our best player) but really value players like Mitch who try hard but aren't particularly great footballers. Ditto Paton.

If Archer can hit a ball like he did for the goal against Swindon. Then he has a chance

The thing that always gets me with fans talking about central midfielders is they want them all to be like Pirlo or something with progressive passing or they want a roy of the rovers kind of center mid. Sometimes you just need somebody in there to steady the game and keep it tidy, or just break up play and be nothing fancy.

My only issue with Byers is I don't like seeing him shoot - he makes Anthony Griffith look good at shots on goal.

Did you see the injury that he sustained...??  Any player who had that injury would have been out for weeks.  Not his fault

Yeah and I'm not blaming him for anything. It's not his first spell on the sidelines this season, though I forget now why he went missing at the start of the season, don't think that was a physical injury but not sure why I'm thinking that.

He's a clear loss offensively on that side if he's not available as John (or Mitch) doesn't offer the same kind of game.

Yet, he makes a lot of decisive tackles and battles for the ball. Something that you seldom see from anyone else. Byers, given his role as a creative midfielder is often responsible for some dreadful passes and losing possession.
