Guys, can we please just accept that we aren’t signing Devante Cole. We can’t afford him and it’s getting boring now. No doubt the happy clappers will call me a silly sausage but the only signing we are likely to make with two days before the season starts is one of the trialist goalkeepers. As underwhelming in my opinion as the signings have been, along with some of the preseason performances, it’s time to get behind the team and look forward to the new season.

Is there a post out there saying that we are signing him ? 
can you define a “ happy clapper “ . Is it someone who gets behind the team and looks forward to the new season ?

A happy clapper is anyone who doesn't have a generally negative outlook on life it seems.

I think @JoeB2 has made this point before. I don't think Moore treats the friendlies as competitive games to win at all cost. I believe that the players are deliberately trained beforehand so they can be tried out when already tired. So, the results are largely meaningless and the players are performing while knackered so they are hardly going to dazzle. I think rested players playing in a competitive L1 match will put on entirely different performances.

To continue that point... last summer we lost five out of nine friendlies (and got promoted). The summer before - we lost two out of six (and got relegated). I don't think what happens in friendlies is any indication of what will happen in the season ahead.

I think we’re going to see a lot of very tight games this season. It seems to be a better group of players, particularly defenders, who will be tasked with defending 1-0 leads similar to last season. The opposition will be better, but the personnel brought in have offset that heightening of competition in my opinion. We have a clear identity now and Moore is cycling better and better players into that system each window, which is a long-term project I agree with. 

We have only added 1 defender though , I’m not counting the wing backs

We need another left sided centre half

I did think he'd lost weight.

I think the reality is that we made League One signings, on League One wages, last summer. 

Then we've gone again with 'big' signings of Humphries, Gabriel and Shipley and supplemented the squad with the other signings. Fans need to manage expectations somewhat. The reality is that Peterborough's chairman is on his podcast laughing that 'Port Vale are paying 5k a week'... which I believe will be true (for multiple players). The likes of Devante Cole will be on 2/3x that number at West Brom so a signing of that ilk would be seriously pushing the boat out, in a position where we spent fees on three strikers last summer. 

I expect one or two ins and outs before the window closes - but nothing major. Then in January we're either i) fending off interest for the likes of Tolaj and Walters because we've had a solid first half of the season or ii) Carol opens the purse to avoid another disastrous relegation. Or... i) funds ii).

I think they are more believing the journalists that reported it Granville than that lad tbf and also I guess DM's a little cagey response as well

To me that last quote sends the message out to Cole what DM thinks of him and that's a clever thing to say imo,it seems he wants to go public on how impressive he thinks he is

IF we are sniffing then DM will need to be clever as i would guess Cole is sitting on a nice contract at WBA so could take some persuading

Not having a pop Granville but surely you think that journalists actually talk to clubs etc or do you honestly think that they look through twitter waiting for someone with less than 10 followers to post a rumour?

If that's the case they might as well all sit on here,they would have a field day 🙂

Sounds to me from that paragraph that we very much are interested and in discussion.
