Match thread: Port Vale v Chesterfield, 14th Sept

The ref made some glaring errors. Benicio penalty shout. Stockley kicking the ball down the line when it was still arguably in play = booking. Pedantry about rolling the ball a few centimetres one way or the other for free kicks. Stockley and Chislett fouled cynically time after time. Conned by Dobra constantly.

Felt the ref over reacted in issuing yellows  on many occasions when a talking to would have done. Also  feel its a comment which carries more validity when we won and not based on the bitterness of a defeat. Vale did not deserve 6 yellow cards and if the ref was being even handed then Chesterfield should have had a good few too.

Good performance especially the first half and good to see DM has eventually realised that our strength is going forward, let other teams worry about us. Puts a marker down in this division, 2 back to back wins and one of the promotion favourites outplayed. Well done to all concerned and what a lovely feeling leaving the ground, I can take more of that.

Hopefully a good omen. Get your little lad to the Swindon game mate 😃

Ha ha, chose not to go to that one given the McKirdy song from the playoffs 😂

He isn't even in the squad mate, get yourself down.

His career has nosedived. One season wonder.

I realise that, but given the Vale fans still sing about Mark Stein sometimes, I thought there was a decent chance I’d have to explain some new words to a 5 year old 😂

Yeah it was Grant. Seemed in good spirits from what I saw.

Yes I seen him also .Interacted really well with the children showing them skills etc. He is clearly fit so you have to admire his professionalism giving he is obviously been kept away from the 1st team squad and in limbo.

Well done connor the fans certainly appreciated it

Well just watched the game in full and thought chizzy was a tad offside, we definitely should have had a penalty, the ref was card happy you only had to fart on there players and they went over, but it's about time we had the rub of the green for once.on to Accrington and hopefully we can keep this run going... I’ve been very underwhelmed with Grant so far regarding his fitness & performances but if he can get back to somewhere near his best I’m pretty confident he will provide decent back up if needed regarding any injuries etc & more than good enough to do a job in league two

Thought Chesterfield obviously had some good forward players but ultimately looked bang average. We probably made them look that way, and should have had the game won by half-time. Hopefully we start to be a bit more ruthless in front of goal. We should be beating teams at home by 2 or 3 with the quality we have.

Anyway, I look forward to my warm welcome back after a 7 day ban for defending myself! 🥰

First half we blew them away.

We have gone from putting Paton up top and hanging the lad out to dry, to a high press and 4 up top at many times during a game!

Let these lads play, like we said all summer, and we will walk the league.

Early frustrations have been calmed and we have, on paper, 3 very winnable games coming up.

Tolaj will become the total footballer.
What a signing he has been.
The assist king!

And I’ve had a pop at Darren Moore. And I think at the time, with what he had at his disposal, it was fully justified.
I’m just happy to see that he’s changed it and let this group of lads attack.

We were good value for that today and if that’s the best the league has to offer then we have nothing to worry about.

Why explain yourself about having doubts about Darren Moore? He has one of the poorest records in football over the last two seasons, so it's perfectly normal. He deserved a chance this season and he got it. He's assembled a very good squad full of quality, and now he has to get the most out of it week in, week out.

I don't particularly rate him and also find him rather dull. At times, for me, his tactics have echoed his personality. But nothing would please me more than for him and us to win every game from now until the end of the season.

If it’s it clearly still in play, can the club appeal to get the yellow card rescinded?  There’s a £25k fine for 6 or more in the Prem is it the same in the EFL? Would certainly be worth an appeal if the ref’s mistake is that obvious.

Don't believe you can appeal yellow cards.

Ideally we will usually be 2-0 up at HT, and the opposition demoralised.  Ideally.

Early days but they are starting to read each other much better and put more ball in

I loved some of the one touch stuff that came off yesterday,as you say you can tell they are starting to get eachothers game now which will only reap benefits for us.

I thought the bench looked really good yesterday and when you think we still have Curtis,SmithEdwards,Hart and Clark to come back at some point,it shows how strong we are looking
