He still remains the owner, 30 years on, to bring us our greatest memories, our highest ever league finish, our biggest transfer fee paid and our biggest transfer fee recouped.

Shush.

He does...but, he had a few more years than the Shanahans have had! Some of our fans have unreasonable expectations, and expect things to happen overnight?

Billy Bell had to succumb to the laws of economics, just as the Shanahans are having to do. Although football is unlike any other business, at the end of the day, (and sadly for many fans) the books have to be balanced.  If not, the business (football club) goes under.

Just look at the number of clubs, large & small in all divisions of the Premiership/EFL struggling with finances and receiving points deductions and criticism from fans.  Who'd be a football club owner eh?!

Absolutely right, BB!!! And look at the scale of some of the debts racked up over the decades - QPR...£170 million +, I believe? Wigan / Bolton  not far away from that? Ludicrous...insanity!

Thanks...Ki think...but I'd argue that if a football club doesn't interact with its community, its community doesn't support it? Where do the mascots come from? Who pays for VIP experiences, bringing money into the club? Id we ignore the local schools, we lose a generation of supporters. Would the community have attended  the markets we've held...or the open days? Or the gigs and sportsmen dinners? Like it, or not, these are all examples of community engagement, and help to attract new supporters...otherwise, would any clubs bother doing them? Increased attendances offer the chance to spend more money on the team. It is a balancing act...but ignoring the community interaction is ill-advised.

Never once did I say to neglect the community. And this is nothing new by the way. In 1991, when my school won the division 1 title and I was 11, Mike Pejic, who I think was Rudges number two at the time, came to present us with our medals in assembly.

My point is that we don’t seem to have neglected any aspect of that. Yet the footballing side of matters have suffered for 18 months now. And the neglect in the transfer market has been nothing short of unforgivable.
So we are around 2500 fans missing since Christmas. That’s a lot of money. Most will be season ticket holders. That’s a lot of revenue lost in the ground. That will spiral unless they sort  this <ovf censored> out. Because football fans ultimately care about the football and not about school visits etc.

Giving a cup of tea and a roast dinner to people won’t put the ball in the back of the net.

What a load of tripe. Vale fans with unreasonable expectations, don’t think so, they just want us to compete in League 1. Expect things to happen overnight, we have completely wasted the last 3 transfer windows, and are sliding down into L2, because of total inept management. Unreasonable expectations I don’t think so.

I agree to an extent...the transfer kitty isn't affected by money spent on community engagement, it's a proportion of the club's income and can't exceed that figure. But there are other reasons for attendances dropping - with the postponements, we are getting too many games too close together...and when they are home games it's a big ask for fans to support Vale every game. I guess, even worse for away games with the cost of travel thrown in? And, yes - I'm aware that fans vote with their feet if the product on  the pitch isn't great. But Vale have always had a core following that doesn't seem to dip?

Without knowing the actual events, I'd hesitate to question the ability or attitude of a professional businessman? I can't see the reason behind DF deliberately leaving us short - what's his motive? But, we don't know how many times players and / or clubs have let us down / changed their minds at the last minute? Or their own targets have fallen through? I know people have said "just get anybody in, FFS - we need bodies!" But - what would have been the reaction if one of those bodies had been Theo Robinson???

...I said it before and I’ll say it again. If she wants to keep him. Then keep him. BUT under no circumstances must he EVER have control over ANYTHING football related and he should be nowhere near organising or poking his nose in any transfer window ever again.

Wow...that IS an expectation! If Carol decides she needs him at the club, it will be in this role, She's not likely to demote him, I don't think? But, I do see where you're coming from - I just don't like to question professional people's abilities unless I know them, personally, and work with them, and I don't form ideas about them based on rumours, conjecture or the obvious loathing and pre-conceptions some fans have for DF, particularly, and the role of DoF, which they think doesn't  belong in a League 1 club!

It’s three windows though pal!! It’s 18 months of it!
As for a motive…. I don’t know. But look at the mess he got Bury embroiled in!

Fans are now saying “get anybody in” because it almost seems that anybody is better than the crap we have!

Right now. Hand on heart. You mention Theo Robinson. He’d get a game over Loft.
A player we chased and if rumour is true is on over 3k a week. That’s just sheer ineptness at very best.

As for fans not going. I haven’t been since November. That’s not because I can’t. It’s because I can watch it on tv and it’s not appealing to make the effort when I know what’s coming.

All this “get behind the lads” rubbish is just that. The fans do. I have. For 40 years. I’m not paying to watch this crap though. Not a prayer. I’m not stupid. No goals in us. No legs in the middle. Ojo, who by the way has massively downed tools. A defence who couldn’t keep a sheet never mind a clean one! A number 9 who is the worst number nine to EVER wear the shirt. A club full of cliches. The club, in footballing terms alone, forget everything else, is in an absolute chronic mess. And if anyone else thinks otherwise then I’m all ears. But this squad assembled of kids, loanees and utter crap, apart from maybe 4 or 5, is an utter embarrassment and absolutely criminal as to how it’s been left to happen and continued to happen.

I don’t need to know him personally to question his professional abilities.

Like many things in life you either choose to see the obvious in front of you or you don’t.

Three transfer windows have put us in this position.

I spoke out about Bratt and co years before everyone got him out.

I spoke out about Smurthwaite years before we got him out.
I had dogs abuse from a lot of people. Me and others on here fought to get our club back way before the sentinel and radio stoke got involved. We called that crook out for what he is.

Now with Carol I’ve got no issue in her owning the club. What she has done has been amazing in many aspects. BUT like Smurthwaite and Bratt before hand, when you see something isn’t right, I’ll speak up. And I’ll be damned if I stand and watch David Flitcroft RUIN this football club with his excuses and ineptness every transfer window.

Remember. When we go down don’t get angry then. Don’t get angry when we have another shower of <ovf censored> transfer window in August. Don’t get angry when they publish a meet and greet and he manipulates you all again with his lies and promises.

It’s March 1st tomorrow. Still no free agents in the door although remember he told you all we are looking in the market. We’ve been looking in the market for 18 months.

Oh and by the way, on the back of all the <ovf censored> he is getting, he doesn’t even come out and man it up himself in a trip to radio stoke or a letter from himself. Nope. He sends Carol to do an open letter. Or he has enough control over her for her to do that. This is why I see narcissistic tendencies.

Think about it.

I partially agree - except, until coming up to Christmas, and Ollie and Alfie got recalled, most were saying how good we looked!

Theo Robinson coming back...again...would have actually caused riots! Loft...aged 26, btw. has been basically a 1 in 4 goalscorer, except for Bristol Rovers where he was 1 in 3. So, oin the face of it, a reasonable target?

I agree with Ojo - he has admitted to being upset when Andy Crosby got the sack...maybe he has downed tools?

A defence that keeps having individuals making silly mistakes that can't be coached out! A mistake is a mistake - we all make them!

Martin Paterson!!!
