How long do we have to just put up with this plonker for? This isn't a reactionary post just because he made a tit of himself today. But he's not improved any aspect of his game since he first started out. Commitment only gets you so far, or at least it should. He has zero football ability and often either gets out muscles or out paced by forwards week in, week out. One of many that needs shipping out this summer regardless of what league we're in. He's utter crap.

He's escaped criticism from many for too long because he's "one of our own". If he was a summer signing he'd be hounded the same as half of the dossers we've signed recently. Overrated, bottom-half League 1 defender at his absolute ceiling.

I think he's average League Two fodder myself. He's shocking in most aspects of the game, albeit he's certainly not alone in this squad.

Yeah I think you're right to be fair. Countless times he's been outplayed at this level.

Had a poor season and seems to be struggling with the weight of captaincy

But has been played out of position, and we clearly haven't done any defending training for over 12 months.

It's a shame that people really want to dig the knife in a player who has always given his all even if he isn't blessed with the most footballing ability. He probably needs a run out of the side but we don't have the options to replace him.

We can't keep him around just because he's a loyal servant to the club, nobody is doubting his loyalty, it's his ability to play League 1 football which is the serious doubt.

Couldn't care less about him giving his all to be honest. That's the least anybody should expect. Being brave and committed doesn't excuse his ineptness. Nor does the odd header he might score. One of many players that shouldn't be at the club still, and I call him out because he generally gets away with crap performances for the reasons you gave.

I hold my hand up here that Smithy has been one of my favourites for years. However, this season he's been a shadow of that player. No one should be guaranteed a place and on current form he doesn't deserve to start. 

I think he deserves loads of praise if/when he ever leaves.

However, this isn't the time to reflect on past achievements - at this moment he simply isn't playing well enough

Smithy has had a crap season but let’s be honest he’s not the only one , he may not be good enough for division 1 but you could say the same of them all except probably 3 players Ripley,Garrity Ojo , it’s all about opinions VTID

Him & Jones can not start on Tuesday! If they do my concerns over Darren Moore will only increase. Need dropping the pair of them after today but as people have said smith has been awful all season & struggled at this level last season to be honest. I don’t like calling single players out the majority aren’t fit to wear the shirt so it’s not just them pair

Ripley & Ojo can go for me. Garrity is the only one worth keeping alongside Sang & plant for me. Let’s face it when we do go down garrity isn’t staying anyway. Chislet maybe as well he’s decent when on his game but he’ll prob get poached as well. The reason I say Sang is he’s still young & there’s definitely a player in there he’s just not a defender
