Important - temporary OVF login / account issues

Hi all,

I've seen reports from several people where they appear to be logged in as different people and/or it flicks between different accounts.

I believe this is down to a cache we tried to add last night (this was to solve the slow site times).

It looks like the cache is showing cached data from other users. 

We are looking into this and will switch off the cache ASAP.

Problems may persist for 15-20 mins before new server settings kick in and the problem should then resolve itself.

That should never happen with good forum software. Are peoples passwords safe? What about people reading DMs?

That's a fair concern Tapper. The passwords are fine. I'm pretty sure the problem is that it's a problem with the IP of the user. 

The forum software uses the IP address to determine who you are. So say Tapper logs in from home the forum software will record the ip address that you logged in from. On subsequent interactions it will use that ip to check that you really are Tapper.    

In this case the newly installed cache is sending the ip of the cache and not your own IP to the forum software which is confusing he forum software. It looks to be this issue - My forum indicate that, all my users have a ip from cloudflare

Cachhing has been switched off whilst we look into the issue.

TO BE CLEAR: No passwords are exchanged or exposed.

To add to this... I think the cache is causing the wrong text to be displayed because of the caching. 

So, even though it may show the wrong username, it's still your account you are seeing, not someone else's.

Cache, or Johnny Cache to give him his full name, was signed for a nominal fee from FC Cloudflare. 

A utility player - he covers a lot of ground (you could say he covers everything) and is great at speeding up proceedings. 

The problem is he's still new to things and is prone to the odd error, so he's been put on the bench for now.
