First LP: One Step Beyond-Madness

First Single: Embarrassent-Madness

Both bought with my pocket money from a record shop in Tower Square, Tunstall near to K's Cafe can anyone remember what it was called?

It was owned by the same people who owned the music shop in Newcastle. Used to to be near the Alma and then moved to near the Library. Changed its name to something ending in ...............que I think. I went to school with the guy who married the original owners daughter and took over the running of the shops. They also had a stall in Burslem market.

anyone remember Sherwins up Hanley duck where Potteries Shopping Center main entrance is? They had listening booths with headphones. Great days.

Yes I remember Sherwins. The record department was in the basement.

Just around the corner on Town Road was Virgo (also had a branch in Burslem) which was a superb little record shop specialising in rock / non-mainstream stuff.

When I was still at school in the mid to late 70's I used to have a part time job at Lotus Records in Picadilly Arcade which was owned by Mike Lloyd. Never thought in a million years he'd end up like he has! Great shop that was, aiming at a similar crowd to Virgo.

Coming back to first records / CD's, I remember the first picture discs coming out. I think the first one was The Cars, either Just What I Needed or Best Friend's Girl, did anyone on here buy it?

Probably got my first records from Sherwins - it is so long ago, it is hard to remember whether it was there, Rediffusion on Piccadilly or Bew's in Boslem.

My first two singles were "Walk Like A Man" by the Four Seasons and "How Do You Do it" by Gerry & The Pacemakers. First album was The Buddy Holly Story Volume 2.
