I think we peaked when we beat Everton and should have beaten dirty Leeds in the FA Cup. Guppy and McCarthy were simply unplayable and with Foyle and Naylor up front we were a match for anybody. Not to mention Glover, Aspin, Tanks, Bogie and Walker etc.

 

Although that is to take nothing away from the sides in the late eighties and early 90s. I just feel sorry for the fans who are not old enough to have seen any of this and their whole experience of being a Vale fan is the last 10 years. Deary me.

Bristol Rovers was amazing in 89 both home and away. Was only ten at the time but still get goosebumps now!

 

On the other hand WBA at Wembley in 93 was one of the few times I have cried at a Vale game and it didn't help with 40,000 daft beggars boing boinging! Never forgive that diving got Kevin Donovan.

We got automatic promotion in 94 tho, did'nt we clinch promotion at Bury when southall was in goal? cant remember the year prob. mid/late 70s.

I thought it was the first promotion in their history or something equally daft......

 

Luton can't be far off our record either, surely.....and there will be some that yo-yo between leagues where relegation follows immediately after promotion....I think that's equally depressing....

Southall players for us in our promotion season of 82-83, it was my first season.

 

We did indeed win promotion at Stockport and it was a good job as we lost our last couple if home games after that I think.

i was thinking that......i have only seen one im 38 but started supporting vale at 16

Didn't Luton actually win league 1 in 2005? I'm sure that they also won promotion from league 2 in 2003.
