Anyone who argues that Pope has been anything better than shambolic for the first 10 games either didn't attend many or have a huge bias towards him.

 

His workrate hasn't been there, he hasn't been winning the headers, his petulant 'slapping the ground in rage' schtick got tired after 20 minutes.

 

Its great that he's off and running but please lets avoid this revisionism. He's been very poor. Hopefully he kicks on now.

 

Disagree on work rate he was still running last mins when younger players had to be subbed because of tiredness - too many games without support playing the loan striker will take it out of you hopefully he plays similar to akinfenwa whereby he stays in the middle rather than having to get back, run the channels run onto his own flick ons

The thing is pope hasn't been our worst performer this season yet people have to focus on someone and have a prejudged opinion and make anything he does wrong fit that opinion

 

he blames for goals conceded ,gets blame for not scoring- we a 4th div team if any of these players were consistent they wouldn't be in this league- he needs chances but same as strikers in this div wont take em all

 

I dont care what level you're playing at and how bad your team mates are. For a striker his goals to games ratio is appalling this season as of yet, no excuses whatsoever.

 

But that goal should give him (and the team) a much needed confidence boost, and hopefully both he and we as a side can start winning games of football again now.

Two proper full backs....overlapping and working as wing backs. Midfield working hard and a solid back 3.....not jinxing it but we look in control. Great ball in from Denton for Popey. Let's face it he's had a mare of a start but the ball in like that and there's only one place it will end up. I don't want Kelly and Morgan but we do look set up well and the players are doing their jobs....cannot ask for more.

thank god we haven't got benteke, people just get on his back and it becomes a trend rather than watching what he does off the ball and his unselfish play- I'm certainly not biased towards him but some do go overboard to prove a point- He is miles away from being our worst player so why do people just have a go at him- we are badly lacking in midfield the link between defence and forward...hopefully tongue holding play, defreitas allowed to get forward supported by turner should help the team and pope or whoever plays up front.

 

for the record I wouldn't have resigned him but being as he is here our choices are limited

Nice first half Vale, no point in bickering about Tom Pope, the important thing is he is off the mark now and will get confidence from it. Keep it up Vale and let's all enjoy a win if it comes.

I am neither pro or against Pope but I don't judge him either on the basis of his Vale connection nor his goal scoring ratio. The bottom line is that he has worked hard each and every game I have seen which are all the home games and a couple of away matches. Just no support around him and lack of supply.

That would be true if the rest of the team actually created chances for him to take. Verging on non existent this season. Secondly I see Pope more than just a goal scorer. He is the sort of player who other players can feed off if only they were in a 100 yards of him.
