Investment vs management

So really it boils down to non-football revenue which depends to a great extent on where you are geographically

if you're in London you can probably attract a lot of businesses to use your facilities, but if you're in deepest Devon there just aren't the local businesses to use your facilities.

That's quite scary!!!

very scarily correct! It's no mere coincidence that the biggest clubs in the country are all from the biggest cities in the country, London, Manchester & Birmingham.

However, there are exceptions! Nottingham is a big city, but Forest and County have not had major success for some time - Leeds have struggled for some time - Neither have the Bristol sides have been exactly pulling up trees recently

having said that, Swansea and Stoke are not the biggest cities in the country with a great business base, but both have done well, but that is because of great off the field management to bring in money from other sources outside of that geographical location.

So geography does have a big impact, but one that can be overcome with the right leadership in the boardroom

Sorry - but i bet that they were on decent wages and that was why we had trouble getting rid of them.

It proves the point that the management need to have a trusted judgement with a club having money to spend and agents pushing players names forward.

But equally, you can have the opposite situation of a decent manager but without the club having sufficient funds to back him.

You need investment, a little luck but a sound team of dynamic professionals to take the business forward. As Port Vale have (or use to) some of the highest gates in the league we could have definitely competed with the income, loans, grants but you need a core of professional people who know what they are doing. That income has vanished, literally and we still do not have a management team or BOD with a forward vision.

The whole management of Port Vale over the past few years has been diabolical, an utter shambles and out of date by about thirty years. There is absolutely no reason why we cannot compete with our peers in this league should the right people with the correct business and consumer communication skills be appointed. For far too long we have been wasting money, opportunities and not listening to the customer base.

If Lorne St was fully developed is there potential within N staffs to make it a big earner? I know a successful team helps, but what is the competition like in corporate facilities? Did MC have a unique idea? Could there be anything new? Would a new hotel/motel in Burslem be viable?

Good management can only get you so far. We desperately need investment.

Having finished 10th or lower in our 3 seasons in this league we desperately need funds to get a better type of player.

We have relied on Ricos goals for them 3 seasons. Where would we be without them?

Hes hitting 30 soon and coming towards the end of his playing career. Then what?

As Dagenham and Rochdale have proved in recent times, good management can get you up a division but without investment and a future plan there is little hope once you are there.

Our stadium, our club, our fanbase for league 2 all provide great potential for any incoming investor.

Just a shame that some folk prefer being little Port Vale and we have a board of directors who look after themselves instead of the club.

A new stadium would be an excellent catalyst for Vale. Yes I know the arguments against identikit stadiums but the positives far outweigh this imo. 15,000 all seater stadium with the possibilty of extending to say, 20,000. Modern facilities, corporate revenue increased and the chance to improve revenue streams across the board.

a new stadium is not required

most clubs have new grounds because they are in ramshackle old grounds surrounded by terraced houses and canals or railway lines etc etc so they cannot be expanded, have no parking or room for corporate development,

like the victoria ground for example.............

what vale need is half a new ground (to replace the railway side and bycars) , the club has the land/parking etc etc to develop but dont have the capital to do it!

if Mo/sims had come in we could have the potential of VP realised, with the potless nomarks there now this wont happen.

I would have always argued against that until I saw the fantastic B2Net at Chesterfield last season and how they had three sides of the ground jumping.

I think a 18-20,000 seater stadium off the D road (close to junction 16 than 15!) in that same mould would be perfect.
