Yeah saw it mentioned elsewhere, can't disagree. When I got back home, I read the match thread, & saw one or two mention Grant was having bad game in the first few pages when the game kicked off & couldn't believe it! He was quality, & Smith also, I reckon he's going to be a decent player for us.

my mate text me saying ray williams said grant had a bad first half, i could not believe this, i did hear some other folk say grant was having a bad game, i honestly think you were watching another grant because he was the rock for vale at bradford, hope he never reads or hears these comments.

To be fair, I thought Grant was the best player on the pitch at Valley Parade although that was pretty much entirely due to his second half performance. He wasn't exactly poor in the first 45 but he certainly didn't shine.

Yeah think that may have been it to be honest, I must have said to who I was with how well he's playing at least 3 or 4 times, was constantly getting stuck in.

mr hobblesworth how do you reckon we will square up at carlisle, how do you think bruno will prepare the continental lads for a tuesday night cup game so many hours north? im not so sure how this pan out tbh havent made my mind up.

Wondering if Smurf will tell him there should be no resting, & to go all out for financial purposes. I'd prefer it too to be honest, should always aim to get a cup run in, be nice to get a decent team away too.

Although a fair number of miles, it is a straightforward motorway trip for Carlisle, probably 2 and a half hours so not too bad. I can get there from just outside Preston in 90 minutes,

 

I am concerned that they may feel this is easier than Bradford and we end up getting a match like the FA Cup tie at Exeter last season, and we all know what happened with Smurf kicking off after that.

 

Carlisle may well be physical, and their draw at Portsmouth at the weekend shows they are no pushovers, they are favourites to win with all the bookies too - so if we get through I will be well pleased, even if it is by penalties or whatever.

 

2-2 I reckon, hopefully Vale then win on penalties and get someone decent or Stoke next round.

In the entire time I've watched Vale, I don't recall us every being favourites for much other than relegation, especially at the start of every season.

I thought grant was poor first half, got us in danger a few times but brilliant in the second. Smith was brilliant all match.

I'd hope he tells them to ignore the fact that they are in a lower division as this is England and a cup match and so the players need to prepare as if they were going up against any other team..be professional and give their all cos that's the attitude Carlisle will have.
