New signings x 2

George

Recommended Posts

This is a summary of his career taken largely from Norwich site Flown From the Nest and adapted slightly:

---

In January 2010, Kelly signed a contract to become a Norwich City academy scholar. He had joined Norwich from Histon and had previously been at Cambridge United.

Kelly was released in 2012 and signed for Everton. He made his reserve team debut for Everton in a 6-3 win over Newcastle United and duly signed a professional contract.

However, Everton announced at the beginning of June 2013 that they would not be extending his contract. In August 2013, he joined Glasgow Rangers on trial but manager Ally McCoist revealed that financial restraints stopped him offering Kelly a contract.

On 3rd February 2014, Sam joined non-league Cambridge City but afer training with Norwich in the 2014 pre-season fixtures he won a contract until the end of the 2014/15 season playing more as a left-back than as a midfielder.

He was released this summer and subsequently signed for the Valiants.

I feel negative, I'm entitled to air my opinion! Im worried about what is going to happen next season.

Why post this crap on the thread of a new signing! Cheer the **** up!

Andy Jones was a slightly different proposition in that they had decent non league record. This lad is unheard of so comes with a lot of risk. We've been here before with premier youngsters such as mark Boyd and others

A non-league record means very little though. Andy Jones was a gamble and it paid off handsomely. We also signed other strikers like Derek Swan and Justin O'Reilly and they didn't work. In many cases, it's luck of the draw...

But perhaps better examples are Marc Bridge-Wilkinson and Steve McPhee - both untested and both did pretty well for us. Yes, others such as Mark Boyd, Craig James etc didn't but that's the gamble. Every signing is a gamble.

It's all very well hoping for a more well-known player but we have done that before (Keith Houchen or Lipa the "Austrian Beckham") and that doesn't always pan out. And I would argue it's far more financially draining if a big-name player doesn't work out than if an unknown gamble doesn't.

In my view, it's not what a player did or didn't do elsewhere, it's what he does for the Vale that counts. I'm happy to wait and see what he brings.

Good luck, but confused a bit:

Where does this leave Ryan Lloyd.

Do we have to pay compo to Cambridge and, if not, why did they release him?

I presume we've given up on Marshall re-signing.

Never thought of that, It certainly makes the Llyod deal a very strange one, seems that Marshall will be off

Yeah I'd like to see what you wrote too. "Underwhelmed" sums up how I feel about this signing. Yes he may turn out to be he next Ian Taylor and I'll fully support him on the pitch. A lot of fans will feel the same as I do

I'm happy to see what he brings and I want him to be successful as much as any fan. It's not a signing to excite me, like I've said before.

This topic should be titled ex Cambridge City left sided player gets surprise move to bargain hunting port vale to add competition to Colin Daniel!

His last club was Norwich: http://www.canaries.co.uk/news/article/norwich-city-release-players-2473160.aspx

The last club played for is the usual club to reference. Picking a lowly ranked club is nitpicking isn't it? After all, did Bury sign ex Biddulph Vics forward Tom Pope? Nope, because his last club was Vale. Sam Kelly's last club was Norwich City, so we've signed a "former Norwich player"...

Oh for goodness sake - who's moaning now.

Posts are instantly removed because Admin (being Vale fans) are reading a thread about a new signing.

When we see something that's wrong such as personal abuse, it is removed.

But we DON'T and can't read every post (that would mean 24 hour unpaid shifts) and we make that abundantly clear. If you see something "worse" simply take five seconds to report it and we'll consider removing it/taking action.

It's that simple.
